Blackpool Sands Takeaway — Restaurant in South Hams

Love this place. We're lucky enough to call this our local beach so frequent it often. We love the plans for the place and really like the updates so far. But there are two things that really niggle us as returning customers so just wanted to highlight them (whilst also showing support for our local business!)

Twice now in recent months we've asked for tap water from the service area and the first time the waitress said no and only backed down after I told her it was for my daughter. The second time resulted in an eye roll from a different member of the team. It's tap water guys... Come on. You're making enough from this place... Don't make a fuss when denying people a basic right to water.

The restaurant tables and floor are always dirty. This is not only horrible to walk in but also just invites wasps and flies. We regularly have to wipe down our own table. I know it's table service but it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a member of staff clearing, wiping tables and sweeping the floor.

I echo other people's comments about the long queues and second a recommendation for a seperate counter for ice creams and drinks.

But this is a great place and holidaymakers should definitely make the trip. Could just do with a few...

We got some lunch which was very delicious, and considering the location not more expensive than you would expect in May.

The smash burger was delicious and the other food quite good as well.

However, upon returning later for some coffee and ice cream, the queueing seemed to get out of hand. This is expected at peak times. However they need to really create a better system for collecting from the window. You get a buzzer if you order hot food. But they only shout out drink and ice cream orders. This is a bit confusing. They should really just use numbered tickets. Or, get a separate hatch for drinks and ice cream. I'm told this used to be the case but wasn't...

We are fairly local and have used this cafe and Beach on numerous occasions. Our dog has always been very welcome in the past even having a dog cafe on site, now however if you own a dog this is not the place for you! I can understand (sort of) that dogs are not allowed on the beach in the Summer months but cannot for the life of me understand why dogs are not even allowed in the carpark!!??!! I think it is very sad and shortsighted. I know not everyone likes dogs but dog owners will be who brings in the money in th Winter months - always assuming we aren't trading like pariahs...
