We have drunk at this pub every day, since arriving Wednesday morning, 4 days ago. The locals, like Geoff, are lovely. The building is quaint, tidy and inviting. Today is my birthday. We decided to eat there and checked whether the chips, ham and eggs was REALLY gluten free as I am REALLY gluten intolerant. The lady who took my order made me feel slightly stupid because I checked as to the gluten free status of the meal. "They would not say it was if it wasn't" she exclaimed. I felt slightly stupid but continued to order. At 6pm, approximately, we ate. On walking back I began to feel poorly. Now, 2 hours later I look 8 months pregnant and I have a TRULY horrible reaction, despite the claims of the pub. All that I can assume is that the kitchen staff were careless. I am in huge pain and I have had to take double medication. This is RUBBISH service. Sort yourself out! I did try to ring you and then I tried to do this discretely, via e. Mail but you did not answer the phone and you do not offer an e. Mail contact. This is really not acceptable.
Dear Green Dragon, Having read your response to my review I find myself quite mystified. I fully understand that the pub was busy. I presume, though, that a pub aims to be busy and succesful. Part of sustaining a busy, succesful pub is caring for customers. Customers that are cared for will come back, as we did for you fabulous drinks and atmosphere. You really may need to rethink your approach to catering for gluten sensitive customers. Just be up front. Just say we do not cater for GF and then people like me will exist, as we usually do, on a cocktail of cider, whisky, GF packaged crisps and plain peanuts. PLEASE do NOT raise our hopes by writing GF by a meal and then tell us, AFTER WE HAVE TRUSTED YOUR STAFF and EATEN, that you don't have a designated non wheat fat fryer or wheat free preparation space. Judging by the intensity of my reaction I am led to wonder whether the chips you used either CONTAINED wheat flour or were fried in a wheat containing fat fryer. I am STILL ill, as I write this 3 days later. Was the ham fried on a skillet where breaded or wheat containing food is also fried? It is better to tell the truth and just say that no food is prepared in a gluten free area than do what you have done to me. No disclaimer mitigates the fact that you write GF next to meals. You were busy but I was hungry and tired and needed to eat. I aimed to verify the GF status and your staff belittled my enquiry which was surprising if they themselves have food allergies. Maybe it is time to rethink the Green...

Having called to reserve a table a week in advance, no receipt was received. Furthermore, no confirmation was provided despite turning up to the restaurant/pub days before the date of our booking to checkout the food menu and the place. On the day we turned up, we didn't feel welcome, there was tension rather than fond greetings. Secondly they couldn't find our booking and despite the same gentleman / managerial staff we spoke to days before being present. This gentleman didn't utter a word to his colleague but kept staring at us. This was disturbing and appalling. We were than provided a table that was booked by someone else and given an hour to eat. Within this hour of ordering and eating, my husband had ordered one of the chief's special for the day. The chicken pie that was very salty and salt and some overpowering seasoning is all that you could test. This was taken back, once we mentioned it to the waitress who stated that there was another complaint from a customer in relation to the same pie. The chief had suggested had to my other- half that he could order something else free of charge. Once again the new ordered spinach and mushroom pie was salty and warm on the sides but cold in the middle, what a joke. Once this was taken away by the managerial staff, not only was this not shameful enough, she then started challenging my other half, stating that they haven't had a complaint in regards the pie. In addition, she stated that she was going to test it and inform us of her feedback. Yet she took the plate back to the kitchen and returned to the bar. Leaving us no feedback or alternative option rather than to request a bill for one of the meals and leave this dreadful place. I have never been disgusted by such unpleasant behaviour from managerial staff. Most disappointing, was that both pies were on the chief's special for the day and what terrible food to serve your customers, especially there having been a complaint associated with these dishes. This should not be allowed or these pies should be tested which is a normal procedure the managers ensure is uphold by chiefs before they display these dishes on the days' special board. I personally wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, they should make better pies or take them...
Read moreJust had one of the worst experiences I can remember for a long time. It’s one of those ‘dog friendly’ spaces where apparently canines get to do what they want when they want, running around barking and whining in that oh too loud gets-in-your-head-space way that ineffective management permits. I had to tell two tables’ worth of ‘fur baby’ lovers to control their pets or leave. Slack jawed vacant looks in response. ‘What, you mean not everyone wants their dining experience ruined by my pet’s squeals?’ No. Breaking news. Not all of us want to have that when attempting conversations with other human beings.
The food might have been nice but we’ll never know. After waiting fifty minutes we got the wrong pie & side and a burnt offering of nachos with a torch-blasted topping that barely covered one triangular morsel.
Go to the pizza place instead folks or see if Just Eat deliver from...
