My wife booked, in advance, for Father’s Day. She has been a frequent visitor here and has always had a pleasant experience. On arrival we were seen to promptly and taken to our table, the views are pleasant and the rustic ambience works. The staff member who came to take our order informed us that there was 10 - 15 minute delay on food as they were extremely busy, not a problem as we were in no rush, equally I had made my meal choice of the 12 hour slow cooked Texan brisket….if there is a delay in serving it, it doesn’t matter, brisket is a dish that only improves with cooking…there in lies the problem, after 45 minutes our food arrived, it all looked good, my wife and son had the burgers, which were generously proportioned and tasty, my brisket however…..now to add context, I am a chef (this was a treat meal so I didn’t have to cook on Father’s Day) so I know, having cooked it countless times, that if you cook a brisket at 90c for 6 hours it will fall apart on your fork…the “meat” I was served was tough and chewy, and I tried several of the pieces that had been clearly sliced from the joint. If this had been “slow cooked” for 12 hours then I will eat my shoe…as my shoe would have been easier to chew. People may suggest “speak to a member of staff”…why are they going to cook it for another several hours whilst I wait! I appreciate demand was high and orders had already been taken, but if there’s not enough to meet demand then tell the customers so they can make and alternative choice, instead an attempt was made to cook more…poorly. As such my experience, with my meal, spoilt what would have been an overall nice meal for my family, I was really looking forward to the brisket, but left very disappointed. On leaving I did happen to notice several other customers having left...
Read moreBooked in for Sunday lunch (Easter Sunday ) after hearing good things and was especially curious to try the Yorkshire pudding wrap that was on their extensive menu . The setting is lovely — the farm shop adds a nice touch, and the restaurant itself has a cozy, rustic feel that makes for a pleasant atmosphere.
Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite meet expectations. I had the ‘Yorkshire pudding wrap’ . Which sounded like a great idea instead of having a full roast dinner . The principle and idea of the dish as an alternative is great but on this occasion the execution and quality definitely wasn’t there .
The “Yorkshire pudding wrap” arrived lukewarm & resembled more like a stodgy and very thick pancake than a Yorkshire pudding . As it was Easter Sunday , I went with the lamb and the meat that was in the “wrap” , was also disappointingly a bit tough & a bit on the cold side as well.
The meal also came with gravy , roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese , both were okay. The gravy however was incredible but the rest of the meal was disappointing.
Service was polite and friendly, though a bit slow in places. It wasn’t overly busy being quite early in their lunch service but things still took longer than expected. Staff seemed a bit stretched, but were doing their best.
Overall, it wasn’t a terrible experience, but sadly not one I’d be in a rush to repeat anytime soon. The location and concept is fantastic but the food on this occasion didn’t quite deliver on the promise portrayed to me by...
Read moreI’ve been visiting this farm shop restaurant regularly—almost fortnightly—for the past four years. It’s been a go-to spot for me and a place I proudly bring my family when they visit. The food has always been reliably good, which makes it all the more upsetting to write this review.
On this occasion, however, the experience was dreadful. I ordered the Penny Henny eggs for my little one, and the eggs were truly unpleasant—bland, rough in texture, and so off-putting that they made me feel unwell. The maple syrup pancakes, once a reliable treat, were soggy and lacked the flavour they used to have. The breakfast sausages were pink inside, and the beans were cold.
I arrived at 09:10, a quiet time, so there was no excuse for rushed or poor preparation. Sadly, this was easily the worst meal I’ve had since I can remember—certainly post-COVID.
This review isn’t written to slate the restaurant, but in the hope that this was a one-off. I even found myself wondering if there’s been a change in ownership, as the usual care and quality were entirely missing.
I’ll need at least a few months—maybe a year—before I can consider returning. Until then, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. I truly hope you can return to the standard that made this place...
