Been here a few times now and I really enjoy the whole experience. The new Landlords have really nailed this place!
I thought I would leave a review because I have stayed here for 3 weekends now. Each time I have been made such a fuss of and made to feel so welcome. I am very surprised about the negative reviews because it doesn't correspond to my experience there. I also speak about my whole party which was at least 4 people each time. The hospitality is absolutely top draw.
First of all the food is absolutely spectacular. Such a lovely menu and you always walk away very satisfied. The Roast Dinner is a highlight on a Sunday. I really enjoy the salad bar. Chips are really nice! And the Coffee is superb! I also have to say that relaxing by the fire after a good feed is a lovely feeling.
5 star accommodation, so cosy in the rooms and romantic but also great for families. It is just such a lovely and cosy pub. Roaring fire with lovely seats. Great atmosphere. A truly incredible selection of beverages. Really tasty and wholesome food. Choice of two bars. Love the old school vibe of this place. The St Austell beers are a real highlight. There is a Pool table and a Dartboard upstairs which is such a laugh and also a rare past-time these days!
I travel from London regularly because I just love to get out of the big smoke and spend time in nature and by the sea. I used to stay at the Exeter Inn but The White Hart Hotel has become my new favourite for myself, friends and family. Because we can use it as a base at the hotel and enjoy lovely meals when we are there and little Modbury, which is so quaint, and very English!
I hope this review has been helpful, in depth and informative. I only really give out reviews for places that truly deserve it. I am returning in a few weeks with another big group of us! That's how much I love it!
So look no further than this lovely place for a great weekend...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of enjoying treatment as if we were family, while having a high level of professionalism.
They were considerate of health needs from the warmest possible spot to a pillow I needed for basically being a shorty.
My husband ordered the South African salad, which caught our eye due to him being from South Africa. Almonds, cranberries, and other assorted goodies were presented beautifully in a large while bowl with little gem leaves as garnishment.
We can not confirm it is authentic, but we can certainly confirm it was a delightful dish.
I enjoyed the ravioli. It was a mixture of spinach and ricotta with a turn of ham, and I believe potato with a fresh, and I do mean fresh, tomato sauce.
This sauce was handcrafted by the chef who came out personally to make sure the food met our satisfaction.
We enjoyed conversing over his methods of cooking and the care he took, which included making the ravioli by hand. If you are lucky, his poor basil plant might be ready to garnish the meal when you come as he surrendered the last leaves. It was a beautiful balance, and I am grateful for the sacrifice.
The local flavour is wonderful. You are just as likely to meet their furry host, and I hope I recalled his name correctly when I say Cedric.
He is the first to politely say hello and will make his way around the tables to be sure all is well. Do not fear. This canine is a proper gentleman. He does not jump and never comes looking for goodies. He gives a polite wag, accepts the pet, and gives a doggy smile before making his way to others.
I highly recommend both the food and the experience. Bonus, they are ready to assist people who might have smaller than average appetites and really enjoy getting to know each customer.
I only ask that you as a customer give them the same warmth as they give to help preserve this...
Read moreWe visited the White Hart Hotel on Monday evening, I have to start off by saying we had a fantastic meal. We were greeted by our waitress Atlanta who was very friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, recommended wines that would go well. It is nice to have waiting staff who have tried the food and can tell you about it. We briefly met the Chef who paid us a friendly hello as he came into the restaurant.
We each had the ham hock scotch egg to start after seeing the lovely photos on trip advisor, it was delicious and lived up to expectations. My partner had the Sea bass with ratatouille which she really enjoyed. I had the fillet steak with the beef croquette, chunky chips and a red wine jus. I have to say it was one of the best steak meals I have ever had! You can tell Chef Chris puts a lot of effort into the menu and the cooking of his food. The restaurant seems to take pride in using locally sourced food which is fantastic. We shared a delicious sticky toffee pudding for dessert and had a espresso martini which was also very nicely made.
The restaurant has been recently renovated since its take over, I was told they made good use of lockdowns to finish there renovation plan. The restaurant has a lovely modern but cosy ambiance.
All in all we had a fantastic experience and a visit to the White Hart Hotel will become a regular part of our visits to the area. I genuinely cannot fault our experience and would give a 12/10 score if it was possible.
I have to commend the Chef for the excellent restaurant he has created, we really hope it gets the praise and custom it deserves. We cant wait to...
