We slept well however although the staff are pleasant. The breakfast was manic and not well organised. Had to ask for tea and coffee on several occasions. Things like the orange juice running out and no-one was monitoring the levels of produce so had to stop someone and ask for it to be filled. Some staff spoke so little English it was difficult to get across what you wanted. A beautiful location with outstanding views. Excellent facilities. We had a lovely cream tea in the lounge. The pub next door a part of this same establishment served really good food. Excellent service and good staff looking after you. Nothing to do with the hotel but more to do with parents. A lot of children were staying and the parents seemed to just disappear to either go in the spa or play golf leaving the kids to roam free. They were running up and down corridors and generally being annoying, taking lots of food at breakfast and taking one bite and leaving it, then back to the buffet for more it was a shocking waste of good food, they made it a game to keep making waffles and badgering the staff too get more batter whilst they were trying to take your order for breakfast, the parents sat in a world of their own on their phones in their gym clothes. Never thought I'd become a Victor Meldrew but that's how they made me feel. So for me I felt if you want to leave your kids to themselves take them to Butlins or some other family type place. It's not a place we'd return to. We live and learn and as I said it is a nice place and if you still have younger kids it could appeal to you. We've been there done that and they are grown up. We did more family related holidays when our kids were younger which we feel are more...

This review is for the Trevilder restaurant which does not seem to have its own TA listing.|We arrived with high hopes as this restaurant proclaims itself as being a β€˜fine dining’ establishment and upon booking emphasises the dress code, which includes a preference for men to wear jackets.|The decor and general style of the cocktail lounge and restaurant is very good, with everything stylish and well maintained. A lot of money has been invested in the look of the place, but the restaurant is too uniformly and brightly lit which makes intimate and cosy dining impossible, and gives the feeling of being at a corporate event or wedding reception where there might be a need to look at speakers or the top table.|Cocktails before dining were fairly good, but some of the service lacked finesse and one lady came across as brusque.|In the restaurant the bread offering was meagre and dwarfed by the amount of butter provided, but more was brought on request. Starters then came too quickly and were uninspiring at best. |Mains were poor and the fish and pheasant overcooked, but the plating was done with a level of care and skill that eclipsed that of the cooking.|Dessert options were all cold which smacked of laziness.|It attracts a predominantly older crowd, certainly when we went, and fine dining it most certainly is not.|With a better set of chefs and some lighting design it could be a worthwhile place to visit, but as things stand I would suggest there are better alternatives, with fewer delusions...

We stayed at this hotel last year for a work Christmas party and had been so impressed with the room, food and service that organised to spend an extra night there this year. We were told that our room was a sea view suite. It was more like a family corner room with a partial sea view (which could been seen if you laid at a particular angle on the bed). This room should not be marketed as a sea view suite. Although the room was tidy it was tired and unclean - bins hadn’t been emptied, there was a layer of dust on every surface. When we asked the assistant manager if we could move she said we could the next day. However, when we asked again the next day she stated that she couldn’t move us and was very abrupt and uncompromising in her approach. We went out for the day and when we returned at 2.00pm our room hadn’t been cleaned. When we asked for it to be cleaned which it was but very poorly with no toiletries/coffee/tea replenished, dirty glasses/cups left, no surfaces wiped, the breakfast tray wasn’t even removed. The food at the function in the evening was ok, the breakfast was the same. It’s a shame that the stay that we had this year was so different to the welcoming stay we had last year. The rest of the the staff were friendly and warm, it was a shame that the manager who we dealt with...

A miserable, sleepless night, in an oven hot room, so had to have the windows wide open - so we got cooker fan smells, the 10pm hotel glass bank recycling and then the wedding bash that throbbed along until midnight but silence only descended after another half hour of door banging and revving engines... A bleary-eyed trip to the breakfast room that started off quietly enough but was soon a heaving mass of demanding toddlers and parents and our request for coffee was soon ignored. We quickly exited to the outdoor pool which is lovely (hence the 2 stars). Will be posting photos of our 'inland view' (aka kitchen roof/stinky back area). Β£245 for a night in an intolerably hot and noisy room? Not bloody likely.
