Nice people but sadly totally sold to the cashless agenda!
No sign to tell you no cash accepted by the way so I ordered a herbal tea and some fish
She made the tea and then did the transaction, I took my cash out and she said sorry no cash only card
So I told her I was very disappointed to hear they promote digital only currency and how this can make you a slave of the system and removes freedom of choice and freedom in itself
She said sorry we have no bank branches nearby and it’s difficult to get cash
RUBBISH excuse, I know it’s not ‘that’ difficult if you only care and by giving up cash you will in future make it even more difficult cant you see you are feeding the beast by backing down???
I asked for a refund on the fish and told her I do not support any business which does not accept cash
Left the tea on the counter but did not ask for a refund on that as she could not reuse it (I have morals and id like to pay for what I was given) but did not even touch it as I just could stay there one minute longer knowing they are contributing to the extinction of freedom!
25/11/24: thank you for your reply.
The young lady at the till said 'sorry its card only', she did not offer any alternative to card payment even when I expressed my dissatisfaction. I also had the exact change as I know it can be difficult to have lots of change in the till. Yes she did offer to bake the fish rather than fry it in batter but she did not have to cook this as I retracted the order once I heard you only accept cards.
I am sorry but I disagree when you say I should moan to the banks (which I already do in many ways), when businesses give in to them making it harder you make it easier for them to clamp down on their agenda of becoming totally cashless.
Stand your ground, but maybe your ground is different from the one I'm standing on.
Despite how good your business may be I am sorry but I cannot back up a business which tells me 'cards only' and I know there are many others who feel as I do (as I am sure many that...
Read moreBack in the South Hams again after wayyy too long a break. Our plans changed a bit and with some time to relax on the pebble beach at Slapton Ley/Torcross we decided to eat at the Boathouse as my mate doesn’t like to overthink things and stray from his comfort zone. I had Cod and Chips my mate had a GF fishcake and his mate had sausage and chips. Just saw a review saying the fish was poor quality and the chips were frozen. Don’t be afraid. Firstly the chips were frozen as they don’t have a range or a rumbler to do Chippy chips. And it’s a cafe, not a chippy. However any initial disappointment was allayed by the fact that 1/there were loads of chips and 2/they were fried to perfection - not a dud chip in the tray. I seasoned them with Steers seasoned chip salt. Yum. Now onto the fish - it was massive, thick and fresh. Perfectly fried too. Some of the best cod I’ve had recently. As good as the Pisces Fish Bar (the benchmark for delicious fresh cod). The batter was just a bit greasy but was nice and thin and stayed crisp till the end. Bob raved about his fishcake so i guess it was good and also praised the chips. We were very well fed and didn’t feel heavy after the meal. Always a good sign. It wasn’t terribly cheap. But on balance it’s a great meal to sit on the beach and eat. The pub next door does food but is a bit more expensive. Would I return? Yes for sure. Support your local...
Read moreI've eaten here 15-20 times. Would get 5 stars if it weren't for the pricing strategy and lack of WiFi.
Pros: Seaview location Staff are friendly Good quality & tasty food
Cons: No WiFi Paid parking only Poached eggs are always hard Crispy streaky bacon only Prices don't make sense Online menu displays wrong prices so you are enticed in with false information.
Price information: A small breakfast used to cost £11 and contained 2x poached eggs. Now costs £12.50 and only contains 1 egg. 13% price increase for less food.
It also cost £2.25 to add items like a hashbrown. That's 20% of the entire cost of breakfast to add one item
Unfortunately feels more like a tourist trap due to the change in pricing. I will return in winter to see if they drop out of season. My advice would be to drive 30 seconds up the road and go to Stokely Farm Shop, which sells the same ingredients at a lower price and includes...
