Rather disappointed with Miller and Carter this evening. I hope management can see this and review with their staff.
We came for a celebration meal and were so excited to have a nice time out. Our server was absolutely miserable, inattentive and caused a damper to our meal. I ordered a wine when our food came out and the food runner who put the food down said he would get the server for us to do this. I was half way through my meal when our server came to the table, who then arrived back with the wrong drink towards the end of my meal and walked off before I could even tell her, she seemed to want to avoid any conversation with us all evening. It was only when we kept trying to grab someone’s attention so explain that it was the wrong drink, when she finally saw us, but I didn’t get the correct drink until after we had finished our meal and did not apologize at all - so I didn’t have a drink for the entirety of my dinner. And she never asked us how our food was or if she could get us anything else.
I wanted to bring my concerns with the lady at the front before leaving- assuming that our server was having a bad day. I then saw her asking another table to review her and leave her a good review, presenting them with a QR code and a discount. So it seems she picks and chooses which tables she wants to deliver a good service too, and asks them to review her.
I was pleased that the food was good and it came in good time, well done to the chefs. A shame that I chose this restaurant as I came a year ago and the service was remarkably different than tonight (I even think I had the same server last year! . It really put a damper on our evening :( The inconsistency of service means I can’t recommend.
We did check the front desk to mention this on our way out but couldn’t find someone...
Read moreMy partner and I got seated on a very small table for two, right next to the serving doors and the staff station.when we got seated my table was so dirty my clothes was sticking to the table.I then ask the three staff stood at that station,if I could have a spray bottle and cloth to clean the table? Which one of the staff did a few minutes later. The starter of chicken wings, which was tasteless and a huge heap of salad under, that came with it tasted at least a week old. The main was surf and turf .I was advised that the fillet of steak should be cooked rare not how I requested which was medium rare. It came very under ,so much so it was cold with fat on the sides and the sinus was still running through it.basically was raw,the lobstertails was very small and over cooked, and out of the four chips I tried to eat three was still frozen in the middle. The oversized wedge of lettuce was also very old, brown on edges and very limp all the way through. This was meant to have sauce on it which was a tea spoon of some sort of sauce and a small crumble of cheese on the top. Both our meals was very poor. This was a birthday meal for my partner which i had informed miller and carter before going.no reference or effort or any apology given in reference to this. When I complained they refunded my meal and that was it . I then noticed another three tables around me complaining about the same thing's. To say the least we didn't hang around for dessert and not one apology for spoiling my partners birthday.paid the bill and left. Very over priced and terrible food...
Read moreMiller & Carter at Grantham is a nice place. Eaten there twice. Last visit (10/2/25) was a birthday meal. Restaurant was pretty busy but we were shown to our table and put in our drinks order. Then we asked to be moved to another table, because the frankly awful music was unbearable sitting, as we were, right underneath the speaker. Mostly though, it was that curse of the 21st century - on the table next to us, parents with a young child. They can't be bothered to actually parent their child, so instead - in the middle of the large, round table! - plonk an iPad in front of the child with cartoons playing so all around are treated to silly voices and sillier sounds played through the tiny, tinny tablet speakers. It's inconsiderate of the parents and inconsiderate of the restaurant to allow it to happen. Most of all, it's inconsiderate of the child's needs - no wonder every kid in the country is being diagnosed with ADHD and other personality disorders.
So, on to better stuff. Once relocated by obliging staff to a quieter part, we were back to yes, it's a nice place. Food was very good - beautifully cooked Black Angus steak, fries could have been hotter, as could the beef dripping gravy. The lettuce wedge was lovely. I swapped a piece of steak for my a piece of my partner's chicken chorizo, and that was very nice as well.
C'mon, Miller & Carter - you make a big thing about dress code on your website and booking confirmation - get a code in place on watching...
