ABSOLUTE ANIMALS... DON'T LET YOUR DOG EAT HERE I took the missus & our 1 year old son for lunch here yesterday (18.12.17) & were 5 minutes to late for the carvery so we both ordered an all day breakfast with chunky chips. The food arrived about 10 minutes later & I immediately noticed 2 small french fries in my portion of beans. I immediately called the manager over who was stood behind the bar & asked him if he could give me an explanation as to why there was 2 french fries in my beans. He very sheepishly offered no explanation but then apologized so I told him exactly why I thought they were there, that the beans had been scrapped off another diners plate and then reused. He got very defensive denying that this would ever happen at this establishment. My missus was quite embarrassed at the confrontation so biting my tongue (hard) I backed down telling him 'not to worry about it' and he left us to eat our meals. Knowing I was right I sat & picked at the plate not wanting to touch the stuff but appeasing my missus I said nothing more until I then noticed a GREEN PEA in my beans. Needless to say at finding this I was absolutely livid so I immediately recalled the manager back over and asked if he explain why my portion of beans were cross contaminated with 2 different types of food that were NOT part of the meal I had ordered. Again he could not answer or offer an explanation & without us asking he refunded us the cost of the meal. At this point my missus knew what I had said was true so we got straight up to leave & as we went to walk out the manager again apologized so I took the opportunity to tell him exactly what I thought of finding 2 different types of food in my portion of beans. Again he reputed that this sort of practice would ever go on in the place but when placed with the undeniable facts he could still offer no explanation. The simple fact is this: The dirty disgusting scumbags have been scraping food off the plates of finished meals in an abhorrent attempt to save money. Finding the french fries was bad enough but to find a green pea as well is irrefutable evidence that I was 100% right. Upon arriving home I immediately rang Greene-King head office and lodged a formal complaint & I also asked them to check the CCTV which will of course cement the substance of my complaint as being the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I also put my complaint in writing in an email along with the photo I took as evidence. As I put in my letter of complaint I refuse to believe that the responsibility of this practice is solely down to the kitchen staff. The order to "recycle" waste food MUST have been given from a managerial position. Green-King have assured me that the complaint and the allegations will be thoroughly investigated and those responsible will be dealt with accordingly. It utterly defies comprehension that with all the rigid Health & Safety these days that this sort of practice could possibly be going on within a national company like Greene-King. God only knows what else is going on in the place. I mean Jesus.... If they have to scrimp & save on the beans then it doesn't bare thinking what people are really eating. Those responsible should never work in a kitchen again & needless to say I would advise anyone who reads this to give the place a wide berth. The place should be shut down for this.

Came to the Storybook to celebrate a family birthday, but we're let down to say the least by the meals served up. I ordered the "Ultimate fish and chips" and it came with two pieces of the thinnest fish that I have seen in my life. It was overdone, so much that I picked one piece up at the end and it held up without breaking. Fish was also dried up completely. We also ordered the ultimate mixed grill, where the sausages were dried up and tough to chew, the steak was ordered as medium rare and I have seen less well done cremations. Oh yes, and the chicken breast was also burnt. The chips that came with this delight were cold as the plates touched down. Suffice to say the birthday was ruined, the server asked if we wanted desserts and upon complaining about the quality of the meals, she merely said sorry about that and left. Safe to say I will not be returning to the Storybook Edit: Manager asked me to get in touch to discuss it further but that was just lip service to make people reading the reviews think they care. They didn't even reply to the email sent in.

We tried The Stirybook after going to Cineworld. My parents had visited before but years ago and me and my son live in Abu Dhabi so were lured by the thought of a carvery! The atmosphere was lovely and we were served really quickly. 3 of us opted for the carvery and one, Hunter’s chicken. My Dad needs his food chopped up into small pieces so when we went for the carvery, we asked if the chef could chop his meat up small for us. Lee came out of the kitchen and said he could do that for us, and also took his veg, mashed everything, gave us a gravy boat and said just to ask if we needed anything else. This was so kind and thoughtful and meant we could all eat together at the same time instead of one chopping everything up while their food cooked down. We really appreciated this gesture and Amy and Tanya were also fab; taking photos for us and giving excellent service! We really enjoyed our visit to the Storybook and will definitely be back!! Thank you!!

It was mine and my dads first time going we booked a table for Sunday evening and when we walked in we couldn’t find staff then when we eventually found a member of staff she had told us to just look for a table once we found a table we were waiting for a member of staff to take our drinks order no one came so we went up to the bar explained it was our first time and we weren’t really sure how it worked as we saw people with tickets for the carvery. The person at the bar just asked us what we wanted to drink and that was it didn’t explain that we needed tickets or how to get them so we then had to go and hunt another member of staff down where she finally explained how it worked. While we were at the carvery a lady had a medical emergency and staff just carried on like nothing was happening and it wasn’t until a customer had stepped in to help out and asked them to phone the ambulance did they actually help out. Once the ambulance had been phoned that was it and went back to whatever they were doing. This absolutely shocked us to the core. Staff should be first aid trained and if not there should be at least one member who is. They should all have basic training so they know what to do in these situations and from our point of view it just looked like they couldn’t be bothered it was just another day at work. It’s one thing to have bad service but it’s another thing when members of the public have to step in because staff don’t have any idea what to do in an emergency not even ring the ambulance! So so lucky that there was a customer there who did know how to help because God knows what the outcome could have been otherwise. I would not recommend and I really hope these things improve for the safety and wellbeing of all...

My 2 older relatives got a table while I nipped across to McDonald’s with my grandson for his meal as he has eating issues and will only eat certain foods. Then we eat together we have Sunday lunch. Looking for our table and staff member comes over and said, he can’t eat that in here. I explained he has autism and will only eat 3 or 4 foods, she replies yeah well he still can’t eat it in here, he has to eat it outside. I tell my relatives I will go outside while the little one eats, they insist they come with me. Staff asks will I keep your table and we say yes please. We go out and he eats his food takes a while maybe 20 plus minutes. We go back in ladies go to order food and I have to stop them as someone has our table. Same staff member shouts over to me well you took to long. I am ready to explode but keep my cool I am with a child and must think of him. We are then offered another table once it’s cleaned and we get to eat our Sunday lunch. Why is it that this restaurant discriminates against disability. Yes rules are rules but surely to staff’s discretion. Could they not offer a plate to put food on so it looks better to other customers. If 3 adults are eating and drinking does it matter if the child is eating something else. Nando’s for instance is very accommodating and more than helpful. I must email green king regarding this, but wanted to let others know of my disappointment and lack of compassion from staff. Not every...
