Sarakh — Restaurant in St Albans

A bit hit and miss. Certain dishes are authentic Indian as you would expect, others are interpretations that don't work as well. Don't expect proper dosa for example, not what you would find in India and nowhere near as good. Chaat was lovely and some curries too. Great naan, and amazing kulfi, all flavours! Now, staff a bit confused, not very knowledgeable and you find that each waiter will come and ask about the same thing. So rather than taking care of a section, they all try to be helpful without communicating with the rest, as a result you get asked if you have finished with something 3 times. Owner however is great, pleasant, funny, and knows everything. Just a shame that all this is not passed on to the rest of the staff. I wanted to love this place given the range of dishes but we had awful customer service this Saturday evening. Ordered a delivery for 8pm more than 2 hrs a head. 8.15pm my husband receives a call saying naan oven is broken so can we take parathas instead of 2 naans (no refund offered). Our food turned up at nearly 9pm and the 2 parathas were tiny, flat and very greasy and definitely not worth cost of 2 naans.

Also the peanut and aubergine dish had three tiny half slices of aubergine and no more which was definitely not worth the money.

We were left feeling a bit ripped off having spent £90 with them. There is no email address either as I wanted to complain to them directly.

Did not understand why there’s such a hype about this place??? Visited this restaurant on Saturday evening with family did book the table but on arrival was told have to leave in hour which was very rude but still sat down ordered drinks and papadom and ordered the food after the staff were ok apart from one bearded 🧔 waiter the food was very bland lacking taste not enough spice chicken and meat under cooked I don’t know why there’s such a hype about this place because there are other real Indian restaurant with great taste and great service sorry to say that restaurant doesn’t live up to Indian food expectations I will rather go to an Turkish grill house or the real deal Indian restaurant thumbs down for me will not return here...
