I have just been back to the Windmill Fish Bar for the first time in over 20 years. I stopped going after that time as it was taken over by another owner and the quality of the food was let's say, not the best.
The business has now been under new management since June 2018, so I thought I would give it another try.
I was greeted by the lady there with a handshake and a very friendly smile and told that I was recognised from all those years ago (when she was learning her trade and the food was good).
I decided that I would try the large cod and was advised that this would be prepared and cooked to order. Which it was.
On presentation things looked promising but I wanted to wait until I got home to try it before passing judgement.
I can honestly say that I was not disappointed. The batter was crisp, not soggy and the flavour of both this and the fish were second to none.
I would also like to say to anyone who like me was dubious to return that, in my opinion, the quality and flavour of the food served to me today is currently the No.1 in the Stafford area.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the new owner and her excellent service and wish her every success.
I would highly recommend the Windmill Fish Bar to anyone and will definitely...
Read moreI'm a bus driver and I thought ill try this chippy for a change as its very cold and I really need warm food as the buses hardly have any heating on them and I had been on the same bus all day.
I walked in and straight away the lady was very defensive saying STAY THERE and putting a stop sign with her hand it took me by surprise.
The man asked me if I wanted anything cooking( ie fish) I said no thanks I just want chips and curry sauce.
There was 1 customer waiting.
I was then ignored for 15 minutes while the man and woman were prepping other orders, I understand if they were very busy but it costs nothing to be polite to the customers.
I ended up walking out after 20 minutes of standing there as I had had enough and went to sainsburys and brought a sandwich.
I wont be returning to this chip shop anytime soon.
I cannot comment on the food taste or quality of food as I wasn't able to...
Read moreOn a day out ride with my wife for my birthday, travelling through Stafford when came across the Windmill Fish Bar, felt peckish so went and tried, I had large cod and cheesy chips, wife had roe and chips, OMG, best meal from a Chippy we have ever had. Lovely lady serving, very polite and joking, made my day. We will be going back there very soon, well worth our 10mile travel to the Windmill Fish Bar. Can't fault service and meal. 11 out of 10 if was possible. Cod fish was pure white, cheesy chips fluffy and tasty, batter on cod was perfect, wafer thin and tasty not thick and over cooked. My wife's roe cooked lovely. Sat outside in car to eat our meals, a lovely start to a great day out. Got to be one of if not the best Chip shop in Staffordshire at least, and I can say I have been in hell of a lot of Chippys over 63yrs. THANKYOU xx keep up the...
