Poplars Fish Bar — Restaurant in Stevenage

Most disgusting meal I've ever had the misfortune to order. 2 pieces of cod wrapped together soaking in grease, any thought of lovely crispy batter completely disappeared when they slid out of the oily paper. We had ordered a large portion of chips, hey what could go wrong there? Well .......... they (the sorry excuse for chips) were so soft and soggy they had compressed themselves into a solid mass. They were unable to be separated, so one lump or two plonked onto the plate. I notice many 1 star reviews on here re this place - can't bring myself to call it a 'restaurant' as that infers they offer something edible. Surprised there are any that get 2 stars or over. You have been warned, eat here at your peril. Also why is this place only taking cash? All sounds and smells very...

We have been using this pla(i)ce for many years now. There is a seating area within the shop. Staff are helpful and service is good. Situated next to the Sainsbury's in Magpie Crescent there is a large car park. Food includes the big four - cod, haddock, rock eel and plaice, aswell as whole chicken (when available), pies, sausages and chips. They even have chicken nuggets. We use it as an alternative to McDonald's for chicken nuggets and chips. It saves time on driving to the retail parks. My son says it tastes...

Worst fish and chip shop in Stevenage !! Got home to find my cod was saturated in oil, the paper it was wrapped in was completely soaked, the meat was about 2 mil thick and just tasted of oil, and the batter was mushy. The chips where saturated in oil too and looked white in colour and tasted of oil like the so called fish, and to top it off we paid for a curry sauce which we didn't even get !!! Do not get food from here waste of money, we will not be going there ever again and would not recommend it...
