We recently visited The Bell in Shottery on the 2nd of August as a family group of 18 people and 2 dogs, following a special and emotional morning scattering my mother’s ashes in Stratford-upon-Avon. From start to finish, the team at The Bell made us feel welcome and well cared for.

Our tables were reserved and ready when we arrived, and the table service was friendly, patient, and attentive throughout. The staff handled our large group with ease, ensuring that drinks and food orders were taken efficiently. The selection of drinks was excellent, catering to everyone’s preferences.

When the food arrived, it all came out together, hot, and perfectly cooked. The portions were generous and exactly what you’d hope for from a proper pub lunch. Several of us opted for the lunch special which included a drink, and we were all impressed with the quality and fantastic value for money.

We were never rushed during our visit, and we appreciated how relaxed and comfortable the atmosphere was. The staff gave us the time and space to enjoy our lunch as a family, which meant a lot to us on such a meaningful day. We arrived at 12 noon and stayed until around 2:15 pm, feeling thoroughly looked after the entire time.

Every single family member commented on how enjoyable the experience was and said they would happily return and recommend The Bell to friends and family. A heartfelt thank you to The Bell team for making our...

the pleasure of being served by Monika during my visit to the bell , and I cannot praise her enough! From the moment she greeted our table, her warm and welcoming demeanor made us feel right at home. She was incredibly attentive without being overbearing, always anticipating our needs before we even had to ask.

What truly stood out was her professionalism and genuine enthusiasm for her role. She made excellent recommendations from the menu, and her knowledge of the dishes showed her dedication to providing a top-notch dining experience. Despite the restaurant being busy, she managed to maintain her calm composure and ensured every table was well taken care of.

Her attention to detail was impeccable—our drinks were always refilled promptly, our food arrived hot and beautifully presented, and she even remembered small preferences we had mentioned in passing. She turned a simple meal into an unforgettable experience with her incredible service.

If you’re lucky enough to have monika your server, you’re in for a treat. She is a true asset to the bell and I look forward to returning soon, knowing I’ll be in such capable hands. Thank you for making our evening so...

Who runs out of food on Mother’s Day? So utterly disappointed! Booked here for 7:15 which is later than we would usually eat as we had a 3 year old with us but we had heard good things. Arrived to be told they had run out of all roast meats except Turkey. Disappointed we all attempted to find something else. When she came back to take our food order we were then told the other things we wanted they had sold out of too! You took bookings, you knew how many covers you had so how can you have not ordered enough in to cover the service? It was Mother’s Day and a Sunday so knew that most people would want roast meals! At 8pm we walked out after receiving no explanation as to how it had happened! If we had walked in, it would make sense but we booked!!! You ran out of most of the menu!! It was Mother’s Day and we had no other options last minute and a hungry 3 year old. You ruined everything for our family! Absolutely disgusting! Your chefs need sacking as they have failed massively! Never again will we come here and we will ensure to tell everyone to avoid too. Thank you for ruining my first...

Food was actually quite nice. My issue was, as a solo patron, I wanted a reasonably small table (that wasn't going to get knocked my be walking along the front of the bar, but most tables were reserved for various times. Meaning I had to pick one of those and end up being shifted nearer the time or take up a big table. In the end I took up a 7 seater. But at least I was a paying customer Vs all those empty tables reserved that had noone in them. Drinks are pretty expensive , a pint was £5+ but I'm from the north so Im happy with my £2.50-3 pints thanks. Food was nice though tbf. Portions quite small but that's ok.

Yes, 5 stars. A rare occurance given my own personal bar. The pub is beautiful, the food excellent, the service very good and the young staff very attentive and friendly. I ordered a pork, crackling, roast and boiled potato with vegetables all cooked perfectly. My companion, a sort of vegetarian, had a perfect vegetable lasagne with chips and salad. No faults whatsoever and with soft drinks reasonably priced as was the food at appx £16 per head. I noted most tables on this Sunday lunch visit were reserved so I'd probably recommend booking beforehand. A great experience and will definitely visit again.

Always driven past this pub. The Christmas market in town was heaving and this pub was a short detour on the way back to the racecourse where we were staying. We found an ā€˜unreserved’ table and ordered food and drinks. Food was amazing , whilst eating two reserved signs were put in our table for later in the evening. They were really busy but thus didn’t effect the service or quality of the food. I am sure we will be back at New Year - but we will book! Returned again at New Year … but will not let me post another review . Food amazing, staff amazing … wishing everyone a Happy New Year!
