Friendly canal side pub, proper bar, Dog friendly occasional open fire no spit but some times sawdust, Lounge recently refurbished occasional open fire, conservatory and carvery Sunday Three sittings, booking advisable. Front terrace in large car park, large rear terrace, lawns and views down to moorings and canal, brew house on site unused. lovely sun traps, back and front, front terrace more sheltered for walkers & bikers, excellent place to site if you are mucky, smoke house to car park. Entertainment .Sky sport. Regular Bank holiday entertainment.Darts teams Bandits/Quiz machines. Poker nights. Private functions catered for. Real ale Larger Bottled selection along with six or more Ciders all kept well as the place is well patronized by an eclectic bunch of regulars, some times confused as locals, therefore the beer moves quickly. Oh nearly for got Alan's pub grub will fill you as his portion control is lacking but improving. See specials board, some menu items available on carvery days snacks available Cobs on lounge bar and New Slice of cake choice, Kitchen available Breakfast till 20:00 hrs normal. Take out service all eating times, Tapas occasional appears on bars. Staff are friendly if you are, just like a big family work well as a team, must mention Pam Landlady mills around keeping an eye on all supporting Al great couple, they aim to please so don't leave disappointed talk to them and they will try their hardest to make your visit a good one Pam retired Now occasional helps out. allowing Motor home stop over best to book especially in busy periods, some quiet la-bys near by not verified but seen vans in at least 3 locations, recovered well after the pandemic. Service slower in Bar but regulars normally assist in hailing service. The Bluebell is now in the hands of Keely from Thwaites. Big update to follow, new broom is sleeping clean, Halloween Disco slow start picked up and was enjoyable, the grumpy ones moaned but Familys were having a good time. Food still belly busting if you want.

Great atmosphere, decent ale and food alongside the brilliant Bang on the ear for entertainment

The Good. Food is relatively cheap. They serve Doom bar beer both regular and extra cold. Lovely setting by the canal. Plenty of outside seating. Menu is straightforward pub grub and they have specials. Kids menu is good value. The Bad. Garden strewn with cigarette butts. Outside benches haven't been updated for many a year which means they are peeling with paint. They have positioned big commercial bins right in the view of the canal. Why?? Why? Service at the bar was great from the bar lads . Service at the table was amusingly bad. A smile would cost nothing! Maybe she was having a bad day. The marquee was covered in grime. Little things, but important things which would make a difference to this superbly located pub.

Not the most welcoming of places at first impression. We were meeting friends for late breakfast / brunch and had booked a table. Took a while before anyone came and sorted out who we were and where our table was etc. That done menus arrived. The main menu books were very old and scruffy and could do with a refresh, the breakfast menu is laminated. We ordered various combinations of breakfast between us plus a couple of pots of tea. We had to wait for ages for our food without any indication of its likely arrival from the staff. When it did finally arrive ... it was massive! The menu description for medium and large breakfast doesn't really give any indication of the physical size of the serving. Some photos would have really helped here. The quality of the ingredients was in a word, cheap and the cooking was pretty much 100% deep fryer. Quantity and value couldn't be complained about, but I would have preferred less but better quality for the same money. The place itself seems to be mostly locals ( we had some playing a noisy game of domino's behind us) so we did feel slightly unwanted. All in all it was OK. Our visit has created some stories that will long be told and remembered, but we are...

Have been a few times now over the last few months and whilst we enjoyed the food (typical pub grub) the atmosphere in here is far from welcoming. The owner - who I can only describe as a likeness to Miss Trunchbull, has been far from welcoming. Stands at the door, hands in pockets or with a pint looking like a bouncer - no welcoming and rudely asks what you’re there for. Witnessed on Friday evening moving a family to a different table 3 times due to the one they had sat at ā€œbeing reserved for regularsā€. Food is not cheap - average plate around Ā£16 and when I say it’s typical pub grub, it’s greasy home made and leaves little to the imagination in terms of hygiene when you see the cleanliness of the place and the way a Sunday carvery is served. Place is in need of a total overhaul, the owners too! Other than that, it’s a huge shame as location is perfect on the canal. If you get past all of that, it’s nice sat on the canal in the summer for a drink - my opinion… keep walking to the Bulls Head for a lovely warm welcome and...
