Having read the reviews, we visited the malt shovel last night for a family dinner. Three of us arrived a bit late due to traffic however it gave two of our party ample opportunity to watch everyone else’s dinners be brought to the table and they were sold on the chip shop board. It was really nice that they could customise their choice between skinny fries and chunky chips As well as garden and mushy peas.

I was torn between the chicken schnitzel and the prawn linguine, but then I saw the specials on offer and along with my stepson went for the lamb shank… We were both very impressed with how well the meat was cooked and the flavours of the sauce and the couscous was spot-on

Three of our party did opt for desserts and in my video you can see the Home-made Banoffee pie. I had looked at the fruit crumble as it was one of the few vegan (Therefore, dairy free) Options on offer, however sadly when I placed my order there was none left. This was probably a good thing as I was quite full from my mains and sharing the prawn taco starter.

As we were ending our meal live band was getting started which we weren’t expecting, but still enjoyed. The serving staff were really friendly and we also have to say a big thank you as they allowed my other half who is on prep for a competition to bring his own chicken and rice meal in a flask and even gave him a plate to put it on to eat with us.

All in all, it was a brilliant evening out and we will be back when all of us can enjoy The amazing...

Came in for lunch with my partner, initially found the atmosphere to be very pleasant. We sat outside and my partner went in to order our lunch. After nearly 40 minutes a young lady comes and drops two sandwiches in front of us and walks off before we can comment on the fact that one of the meals is wrong. No I have to issue with a small mixup, I understand these things happen. I went in to ask for the issue to be resolved and was met with attitude from the lady behind the bar. I go back to sit outside only to find that younger lady comes and put the same meal back in front of me and argues that it is the meal that I’m pointing at on the menu (which it wasn’t). After going in a second time and my partner being met with attitude and rudeness from the staff my meal finally comes out. The food was disappointing, flavourless and dry and when someone came out to ask us how our meals were they stood at the other end of the pagoda and shouted at us to ask how our meals were. There was no offer of refund for the difference in meal price between the meal I ordered and the more expensive meal we paid for. I have a background in restaurant management and find the experience overall to be disgusting, a remark largely aimed at the...

Just had a lovely roast dinner with my boyfriend and his daughter after leaving the retro truck show at the motor museum. The pub is beautiful, retro touches like the bicycle planter and great outdoor space with random chairs and tables under a gazebo. Inside has the wow factor with a lovely old bar and little snug areas including the one at the top past the bar in the big leaded window with the bird for company! We had 2 roast dinners (gluten free) which were wonderful. My boyfriend raved about the flavour of the carrots! I had the meat trio which was beef, pork and honey roast gammon. Little 'un had Cajun chicken burger which she loved and then topped off with a chocolate brownie and gluten free New York cheese cake, served with cute little shovel spoons! Outside there's a ittle allocated smoking area with a bench and features to finish. The 2 lads working (both tall and well used to ducking everywhere under the beams) were ultra polite and hardworking, covering the bar area, outside and waiting on. Service with a smile the whole time. Shame we live 2 hours away or would be regulars! Can definitely...

What a great little gem of a local pub that we didn’t know existed but will definitely be back! We went for a family meal to celebrate my birthday here and the food was delicious! I had the chip shop board, the food was very yummy. The fish and scampi was lovely and crispy, the battered sausage was good too. The chip shop curry sauce was the best! I also tried the lamb shank as a family member ordered that, and that was also delicious. It fell right of the bone and the gravy was beautiful. The pudding also came with a small golden shovel to eat with, which was a great little detail. The staff were very attentive to our needs, we were running a bit late and they were very accommodating with that. They let us know there would be a bit of a wait for food, understandable as it was busy and this is also on their menu, but honestly it’s so worth it. There was some live music from 8:30, which got quite loud and made it a bit hard to talk but we’d finished our meal by that point. The atmosphere was great though! Will definitely be coming back in the future and thank you for a great visit!
