The Shakespeare Inn — Restaurant in Stratford-on-Avon

We held a fabulous surprise 70th birthday lunch for my mum who is a Harbury local, all arranged at a distance as I don't live in harbury. It was made so easy by the team, all options and prices were discussed on messages, all confirmations done virtually......I turned up on the morning to some fabulous smells from the kitchen!

We had a hot buffet, which went down a storm! The food was spectacular, and vegetarian options were very popular. There was more than enough for the numbers we catered for, and took home all the leftovers, boxed up by the fabulous team.

We were able to decorate and set the room up for a really special surprise, and it certainly worked! My mum was gobsmacked when the staff 'showed her to her table' and she found over 20 guests who travelled from all over the UK.

I also had a minor cake emergency which the team there helped me rectify with minimal damage!

Overall, I would highly recommend this venue, the food and staff are outstanding. Thank you all for such a lovely and...

Had a fantastic meal here last night (braised shoulder of beef with gravy, mash and roasted vegetables). The quality of meat was really excellent and the flavours superb. To improve the experience, the service was remarkably good; friendly, helpful and super efficient. They didn’t forget any requests which were promptly delivered (horseradish, extra drinks etc) and it felt like they actually really cared whether we were enjoying our meal. We were really impressed. I hope they can maintain this standard as we will definitely be back to try other things on the menu. Loved it. Really want a decent local to fall into for a friendly reception, good food and a decent pint....

We visited in a group of 6 - a week before christmas 2011.

Very slow service, and the waitress said they were rushed off their feet - I'm not sure how this could be the case.

They claimed to have no carrots and some of the food was not served hot (soup was luke warm, fried camembert was hard in the middle). The 'rare' steak was definitely not rare.

Finally, they served sweet chilli sauce with the fried camembert (cranberry was advertised) - and didn't tell us - when we informed them, they told us they'd run out of cranberry sauce (a week before xmas? really?).

The venue itself looks nice - a nice open wood fire and so on - but the service and food...
