Visited the kings head today, were very happy we could bring our dog inside and she was very well behaved. When ordering food we weren’t told there was going to be a long wait, or that they were understaffed, also at this point the pub was very quiet, so didn’t expect to be waiting long for our food at all. After almost an hour and as we were just about to cancel our order, the food came out. I had ordered the roast dinner with beef, this was meant to be served pink but was far from it and purely fat.the gravy was very very watery so I went back to the bar and asked for some proper gravy as it was watery, I was told that it is out of a packet and that’s how it comes, nothing can be done and I can’t get better gravy. I returned to eating my food with my watery gravy and noticed I also didn’t have the sausage meat stuffing that was on the menu for my meal. We both looked around for staff to check on us or to get their attention but there was no check back and I didn’t want to get back up to go to the bar to be told they probably didn’t have it as they didn’t have the lamb shank, but we weren’t told about no stuffing. My partner ordered the mix grill which wasn’t too bad and he ate the majority of it however the chicken was so tough and dry that you couldn’t cut it let alone eat it. I left hungry and very very disappointed with the food. If we had a check back we would have been able to express what we were unhappy with but I didn’t want to have to go back up to the bar and wait for someone to come to me to tell me there’s nothing they could have done, like they said about the gravy. The staff were nice enough and it is a good looking pub who welcome dogs which is nice, but the food completely ruined the experience at the kings head and doubt we would come again.

We visited as a party of six on a Friday night. Service was incredibly slow. We had to wait 30mins for our drinks and food order to be taken. Two of our meals weren't available - the beef & ale pie, and the fillet steak & ribs; and there was no pineapple to go with the gammon, egg & chips. The waitress put this down to them being popular. We had to wait a further 40mins for our food to arrive - and even then a relatively simple meal of gammon, egg and chips had to be sent back for being wrong. While the food, when we finally ate, was good, it was an incredibly frustrating experience. When we came to pay, the chap at the till explained that they were incredibly short-staffed due to a number, including the chef, isolating because of COVID - and he very kindly took the cost of all 6 meals off the bill. If only they had explained that right at the start, we would have cut them awful lot of slack and we would have had a far less frustrating evening!! And, if a number of meals are very popular then explain that up-front before guests make their selections. Better still, why not make sure to have sufficient stock. Your guests will go away feeling far less disappointed. 3 stars - not for the slow service, but for the lack of communication and the lack of favourite menu choices.

Best meal in Cotswold. My husband and I selected this place in an impulse and frankly, in hunger. On our way back from our trip to Cotswold, we stumbled upon this right after our climb from Painswick Beacon. We hadn't booked in advance but that wasn't a problem. The friendly staff were quick to provide us a comfortable and cosy table. The menu was a spread of selections with Sunday roast for Easter Sunday. Husband ordered the Lamb Shank which was tender and juicy. It had a load of seasonal vegetables, baked cauliflower which made it worth the price. Excellent quality. Mine was a burger which was deliciously served with a unique chutney sauce. Great portion, top quality and excellent staff. Cannot emphasise enough how polite and cordial the members of their team were. One of the boys came up to our table to share some interesting historical facts and give us more trip ideas when he heard we were visiting from Southampton. Big shout out to him! The lady who served us was delightful and very attentive to our needs. Well done to the team!

So the kings head is fairly local to us and we’ve been there many times before and had no issues. I went back in October for the feed the family for £20 and it was amazing great choice of menu and the food was delicious. However we went yesterday for the festive 3 course menu and it was probably one of my least favourite Christmas dinners out I’ve had for many reasons. So my starter was Camembert which came with a huge Batton of French stick and no butter. So when me and my friend asked for a bit of butter to go with it we were told we’d have to pay extra for it, quite shocked at this I didn’t really agree but they still bought a bowl full of little circular bits of butter for us, the starter was nice. Main was a traditional Christmas dinner it came with carrots and broccoli (no sprouts) a tiny stuffing ball which was like a frozen ready done one and the roasters we’re also frozen ready done ones. It had a little mini pan with gravy next to it for you to pour over however this was only half full (I measured it was 3 tablespoons worth of gravy) when we all asked for some extra gravy for the table we were also told that will be another extra cost totally shocked by this again I didn’t really agree they bought 3 gravy boats out for the table as everyone needed more gravy! I then asked if we could have some cranberry sauce the last looked a bit puzzled wether they did this or not but I asked if he can check as this is generally the condiment to go with turkey dinner. He then said AGAIN this will be extra cost WHAT?!! So he came back with a mini gravy boat with the runniest blandest cranberry I’ve ever had this was to share between three of us it was tasteless! I ate most of my dinner but it was bland the gravy was supposed to be extra tasty or something but it wasn’t. So next up was pudding I had crumble which had a dead fly stuck to it when it came out. I told the lady and she asked if I wanted a fresh one so I did which was nice. When our bill came they’d charged us £3.50 for gravy, £1.50 for some cranberry and £1.50 for some butter £5.50 for what should of been free of charge was disgusting and also the fact I had a fly in my pudding the least they could do is give us a bit of butter, gravy and sauce “on the house”

We were a table of 10 and had spent quite a lot of money at the bar all night.

My friend actually went to the staff and requested they took the extra charges off seeing as i had a fly in my pudding it was the least they can do. They agreed and removed it. I felt the staff weren’t really bothered and lacked a bit of experience perhaps. I know that this pub had been in a few different hands recent years so I’m not too sure if this is why we didn’t have the same experience as before ?? Hopefully this was a one off but the quality of the Christmas dinner needs looking at! Also what’s with all this EXTRA charges?? You don’t charge for ketchup and Mayo so why charge for gravy and...

We popped in for lunch after a day out, we have used the pub often as they done amazing pies. Not been in for a while and it was a totally different experience this time round(not sure if it's under new management)on arrival almost every table outside was filled with dirty plates and glasses,we choose to sit inside and there was an over whelming smell like burning or dirty fat. we both ordered simple fish and chips. After a lengthy wait just under an hr yet only one table was served before us, our meals arrived. Working in hospitality myself for over 20 yrs at first glance I could see my chips were dried out and and fish batter was pale..I soon realised my batter was soggy and my fish was slimey, my partners was the exact same and the tartar sauce had skin on top and was hot(obviously sat under a hot plate a while) We don't like to complain but I was not letting us eat under cooked fish. We complained and they said they would cook fresh straight away. On second meal batter was over cooked to the point of black in areas fish was so over cooked inside it didn't even cut, mushy peas were cold this time round but the chips were freshly cooked and actually nice( had to eat a few while waiting for a refund as I am diabetic and just took meds) once we have a bad experience we dont return again sorry. Wouldn't recommend sadly...
