Updated review: I feel obligated to update my review now that the cafe has changed. The drinks are still great and the staff are still lovely. However, the food menu is gone now and the food serviced is either snacks or bought in and reheated/plated. And the overall vide has changed. It’s not really a place for a cozy coffee meet up or for families or for groups. Gone are the comfy chairs, the sofas, and the baby change. Now it’s high tables, metal seats that you can’t really sit in for very long, or sofas that don’t really work with the tables. Clearly they have made a shift with an aim for higher table turnover. I hope that works out for them as it’s a nice cafe but it’s not my vibe any more. I still pop in for a take out dirty chai when I’m passing but sadly it’s no longer a regular coffee stop for me.
Original review: I’m not going to say that this is the best cafe/wine bar around because then everyone would come and I wouldn’t get a seat anymore. So I’m not going to say the best food (the loaded nachos are definitely not to die for), I’m not going to say that they make the best dirty chai anywhere in Stroud, I’m not going to compliment excellent staff for friendly and efficient service, and I’m not going to praise the fun decor and chill atmosphere. Definitely don’t come here; but if you do please make sure there’s always an empty table so I...
Read moreHad a really disappointing visit here today. My friend and I ordered two hot drinks and a toasted tea cake each. We sat outside and our drinks were brought out shortly afterwards. A few minutes later a young lad brought us our tea cakes with some butter each. He put them down and then said "the knives are inside, and jam too if you want it". Seriously? You bring out something that clearly needs a knife ... without a knife?! My friend went inside to get us a knife each but there weren't any! She asked at the counter and was told they'd bring us one out. We soon realised this wasn't going to happen, so used our teaspoons to spread our butter & jam!! As we were there for a couple of hours, we ordered a second drink each and asked what the cake was which was on the counter. The same lad who'd brought out our teacakes didn't know what the cake was and made no attempt to find out. I said it looked like apple cake, and his reply was "I think it's rhubarb or something" then shrugged. My friend said to him "sounds like you dont care to be honest" and he said "no, not really"! Sadly things didn't improve when he brought over our drinks and slopped most of them in the saucers. Such poor service today and a real let down. It's put us off returning but are hoping it was...
Read moreI’d been meaning to try this place out for a while. Finally got round to it today, and it seemed like such a lovely place, in a gorgeous spot on the canal. Sadly, the coffee was very bad. Weak, insipid and expensive. I had a ham and cheese toastie which was absolutely abysmal. I couldn’t actually detect any cheese in it, and the ham was cheap, wafer thin nastiness, and there was hardly any of that. When I took it back and explained the issue, I was told that that was standard, how they always do them etc. It was served with a very sad, limp side salad. Altogether quite depressing experience. Such a shame, and a waste of a place which could be brilliant. If my complaint had been dealt with appropriately, I wouldn’t be leaving a bad review. But I just...
