I was taken to Stroud brewery by a local. I am a fan of craft beer and cider and this place will not disappoint! They have a main tab room bar. Bench style Bavarian seating with some booths and an open kitchen (serving hundreds of wood fire pizzas which looked amazing) It has welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff and a range of non beer drinks from those who aren’t beer lovers. What I liked is that there was a range of strengths in the beers served. On tap were a 0.5 and 2.5 beer to offer less boozy options. The beers made on site are great. The wheat beer special was a real highlight for me, on par with the European wheat beers in Germany / Belgium. The 2.5 season citrus beer was also very quaffable. What makes this place is community. There are postered everywhere for local clubs, bands, associations and events. My friend tells me they hosted Stroud Pride and I saw yoga, gigs, reading clubs all advertised. The outside area on the canal is well thought out and will be amazing in the summer and there is a balcony bar upstairs. (Booked for a wedding) Highly recommend as a place to spend an afternoon at the weekend. They also showed the six nations so it’s always a good place in my book ;). Will look to return when visiting again.

We had booked this a few weeks before arriving as we were concerned that there wasn’t much else in the area and there was a live music event for free. It’s situated along the canalside and easy to access during the day as well. In the evening, thankfully they kept our seats for us despite being slightly late. They seem to have lots of well thought out themed events based here. We ā€œfor our sinsā€, arrived on the country western night. The only thing chapped about me is my lips. We got the olives to start, they were juicy and oily and we appreciated how they were pitted. We only looked at the pizza menu as we were not interested in burgers. Burgers are boring ! Good pizzas overall with the margherita being the best of the two we had (another was a pesto fiorentina). The salad was an absolute con, you might as well have left it in the tesco bag. Garlic bread was a little dry and could have come earlier on as a starter. We had to spice it up with the left-over olive brine. My girlfriend loved her beer and saw in my eyes that she had picked the best one (a Stroud Brewery organic lager). We’d recommend people to come here on a night with music as the vibes were lively and people had obviously come for a good social.

My first ever visit here my partner had researched to visit whilst we were walking the canal. Very different and unique and I particularly like the vibe. Plenty of posters of events on which I will be attending. We were able to order food even though it was a Saturday afternoon and found a table, ordered pizza which was very nice. Wasn't the greatest coffee I've had if I am honest could be improved. Toilets were quirky and clean. My only gripe I don't know if it had been a busy day but staff did not seem overly enthusiastic, not a single smile, even walking in and leaving passed several staff no acknowledgement, now normally I would walk right out at such things but put it down to being a Saturday afternoon, but could do with improving you never know who is walking in that door or leaving and what kind of Google reviewer they are!!šŸ˜‰ I will be returning though

Fantastic Canal-Side Spot with a Modern Vibe

I recently visited this canal-side venue that’s perfect for a drink and a bite to eat. The place feels spacious and has a fantastic atmosphere with a modern vibe. The DJ was playing upbeat music, which added to the lively ambiance. After enjoying a pint of cider, I discovered a roller disco upstairs—a complete and delightful surprise! If I hadn’t brought my dog (did I mention they’re dog-friendly?), I would have definitely joined in the fun!

The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, even bringing a bowl of water for my dog before I had the chance to ask.

However, I have a couple gripes, hence the three stars. Firstly, the Sunday menu is quite limited—it's pizza only. For a moment, I felt like I was in Italy! All I really wanted was a pint and a bowl of cheesy chips, but nope, that was too much to ask! I made do with the pint, their loss!

Another issue is the lack of canal-side seating. On a sunny spring day, the limited outdoor tables were all occupied. Most of the seating directly adjacent to the canal seems to cater to larger groups, which isn’t ideal for smaller parties of 2-3 people. There’s an unused ice cream shed that could be removed to make space for more seating. With the canal expected to open to boat traffic in the next few years, it might be wise for them to reconsider their seating arrangements.

All in all, it’s a great spot with a lot of potential. They just need to rethink the Sunday menu and improve the outside seating options to make it more welcoming...

Pizza is very good, beers and lagers very good. Staff in the main are good. Unfortunately our group had a mixed experience :-( arrived to be told we did not have a reservation for our private party for 17 people, some of who had travelled more than 200 miles for. After a few staff dismissing our claims, even when shown emails confirming the booking and after one tried to tell us our booking was for the night before, not possible when the person booking was doing so on the date if his own birthday, so knows the date 😬. Anyway, eventually they suggested we could use a room on the top floor, no bar up there though, or toilets, no music, just a large room with benches and tables. They did offer table service for drinks and food. We got one full round of drinks brought up, before that, someone brought us empty water jugs and glasses as they did not realise there was no water supply in the room, so they had to go back down 3 flights of stairs to fill and bring back. Pizzas and sides arrived in batches, a few items wrong and a few drinks wrong. The rest if the drinks we went down to get ourselves as was easier. Thankfully when the bill came, it had been drastically reduced, which did help. As a group we made the best of what started out as a potential disaster. I am sure without the initial booking error it would have been much better, music other than that played from a mobile phone would have been a plus. Advice would be to check, double check and then check again for your booking if booking a...

Good beer, poor service.

Father of the groom had 5 minutes to change!

The beer was really good, so no faults there, but the business is really not run well. We ordered our beer a month in advance to avoid this sort of hassle, and I even called the day before we were scheduled to connect it to confirm that everything was ok. On the day we were due to collect however, the staff had no idea who we were and no record of our order number. After going back three times, we eventually waited for 50 minutes while they made up the order using a substitute beer as they still had no record of who we were, that we'd visited twice already and phoed multiple times.

It worked out in the end, but the father of the groom had 5 minutes to change after finally collecting it just over an hour before the service! It was down to luck that he made it, no thanks to the service provided.

It's most likely just a computer error, but for him to go back three times and for them to still not have any idea what's going on is really not great, and for him to wait for 50 minutes on the wedding day is really poor form: they should have offered to deliver it really rather than have him wait!

Can't comment on the food, the beer tasted fine, but, if you're looking for somewhere to order from for an...
