A very warm and sophisticated atmosphere, helped by the log fire. However, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend as a family friendly fun meal out. Felt very much a place for ‘grown ups’ only. We arrived with our toddler and we weren’t offered a children’s menu or high chair, I felt it was odd we had to ask when both were available. Atmosphere aside and the reason for the 4 stars.. the food. The food was faultless. Again quite a sophisticated menu with just a few classics thrown in.

We stayed at The Bear and booked for dinner and breakfast too and must say that, for the price, the meals were not worth it. At dinner we had the beer battered fish and chips and the fish was tasteless and it felt double battered and extremely greasy, the Cote du boeuf felt like it came from at least two different pieces as some bits were more cooked than others, some colder, just not what you expect for ÂŁ75, even the bread for the table was fridge cold, barely spent a minute in the toaster, and not great quality. They were hosting two large groups so we put it down to that, but the next morning the toast was again not great quality, coffee was watery, the avocado wasn't even salted and the English muffins you can get better ones at Tesco. Wouldn't be coming...

My partner and I were staying in Stroud and had been given a recommendation to eat at the Bear of Rodborough. Unfortunately, we were not impressed , cobwebs in the windows by our table and looked liked they'd been there for months , the meals were well over priced for what you got , a very pretentious place. In addition the waitresses had overdone the make up and looked like a dog's dinner and looked awful. We will never be...
