We stumbled across The Old School House Kitchen after a Sunday morning stroll, what a lovely find! The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and steeped in history, making it a perfect spot to relax. We had chicken burgers and carrot cake, both of which were absolutely delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the charm of the place. The only small downside was that the flat whites we ordered were served lukewarm, but this didn’t put us off from returning. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back again! Highly recommended for anyone looking for a cozy and characterful spot with great food.

A heavenly spot in the hidden treasure trove of Cox Green. Splendid drinks, scone, ambience, decor and free parking. Not to mention the warmest of welcomes, courtesy and professionalism. Scott also is a hive of information on the local area & history. His enthusiasm exudes with magnetic charisma and authentic soul. What a stunning venue! I shall be back every week. Let your soul relax in this fabulous haven! Check out the super 3 bed cottage with exceptional view of Penshaw Monument too! I wish Scott & his wife every success xx

First time visiting today, beautiful location and delicious food. We ordered a beef brisket sandwich and corn beef pie with a side of fries. The brisket beef was lovely, soft and flavoursome. Also had a caramel iced latte and banana milkshake, both great! Will definitely be returning as the menu had plenty of choice, and the cakes also looked yummy. Friendly service 😊

The absolutely worst customer service I’ve experienced in a long time. As I entered no one was at the counter then a young man appeared from sitting chatting at a table, seeming annoyed that he’d been interrupted in his conversation. Gave me and my guest two menus and was told to ‘find a table’ having waited with no one coming to the table I approached the counter and simply asked if I should order there, at which point the rude young man (18 yrs) continued with his same arrogant manner and told me to return to the table and our order would be taken. Trying not to allow the appalling attitude of the young man I return to the table and eventually a middle aged man came to take the order (possibly the owner). I gave the order and how I wanted it cooked. About another 15 minute wait my food came out not how I’d asked and with items on the plate I said I didn’t want. The owner then started to argue saying it was as I’d asked. I then repeated word for word what I’d said. Struggling to stay semi professional he turned away saying that he would sort it. Having decided that due to the arrogance, rudeness and complete vile nature that I was not prepared to eat there. I went to the counter to pay for the drinks when the young man was trying to get me to engage in an argument. Luckily I have a high tolerance level for vile people, or otherwise I’d have made it quite clear that is not how you treat/speak to anyone. The room was quirky but I will never cross the doorstep again, and can’t imagine many will keep returning after their experience. Look elsewhere this place...

Beautiful building, rustic interior, really nice. However, insufficient car parking and its location demands a vehicle to get there. We arrived to be told to take a seat and someone would attend. After 10 minutes sat. A male waiter arrived and said we had to order at the counter! Now we’re behind 9 breakfast and drinks orders because of this. The guy who appears to run the place, took my order and was an ignorant and rude, I was unhappy anyway due to their mixed info, 10 minutes later our drinks were brought. Another 10 minutes passed before the waitress told us the guy at the counter failed to put our food order to the kitchen. When it arrived, the plate was literally soaked in fat oil, the food was swimming in it. Fortunately I had tissues to mop it up as best as I could. I had to pat the food dry, move it then mop up the running fat on the plate. The one slice of toast arrived cold, the pot of beans were stone cold, not even warmed up. No apology by the rude bloke who served us, the same one in shorts and t-shirt who was rude at the counter. I’m sure my breakfast arrived as it did as he took a dislike to me when I paid as he knew I was miffed at the shoddy service. I’d never return due to him alone, also because of crap service and horrible food served to us; very, very poor and most possibly due to this guys disgraceful behaviour. It’s a pity there’s no way to upload the photos of fat soaked tissues and uncooked fat ridden bacon swimming in...

Went there today, really looking forward to it and , sadly, left really let down. The building and decor were lovely but that is where the praise ends I'm afraid. The limited menu ( we had to hunt around for one) was very bacon orientated. Unfortunately they didn't have any bacon! No mention that they sell tea on the menu either. Sat waiting about 20 minutes for someone to take our order, a few staff walking past looking busy and other customers coming in and waiting too. My sausage bap came with no knife or serviette so had to dip into my ketchup portion using the bap. 2 little sausages and no butter in it. Really poor value. My partner's scone was average but came with only 1 butter. The waitress discouraged my partner from getting a blueberry muffin by saying they were tiny! Our tea and latte failed to come at all which is unacceptable. Decided to leave so cancelled the tea and coffee order. Went to pay on my debit card and they couldn't take payment as they couldn't get a signal. Was asked if I had a credit card ( I don't) and in the end he said no charge due to the poor experience. Other people got up and left too. The waitress seemed surprised we hadn't had our tea and latte so obviously very chaotic. Will come back next Summer to see if the teething issues have been addressed. Sorry for posting such a negative review but I can't lie. When running smoothly I'm sure it...
