Penshaw Tandoori — Restaurant in Sunderland

Visited on a recommendation, but was left really disappointed. Had booked table for 7pm, told on arrival that table not available yet. Asked to go to adjacent pub and come back in half an hour. We did, but still didn't get seated until almost 8pm. Another couple had a table booked for 6.30pm and left at 7.45 with their food as a takeaway instead. Food was awful apart from Peshwari Naan which was good. My aloo starter was sent back to the kitchen (cold, sliced boiled potatoes), Was brought back to me and told "that's how it comes". Didn't eat it. Staff asked how starter was, told them 'awful', shrugged and walked off. When it came time to pay we were asked if the meal had been OK. We explained it hadn't, but just had the contactless machine wordlessly offered to us for the full amount. Manager caught us outside and gave us £5 cash but too little too late. My wife and I had a takeaway from Penshaw Tandoori and quite honestly its the worst we have had anywhere for a long time. My wife's Bhuna prawn was OK and a generous portion but my onion bhaji's were very small and overcooked(not sure if they were precooked and then warmed up.( no raita with the bhaji) Both of our curries were very watery, the chicken malayan being pretty tastless and the chicken very tough. The Srilanka chicken was also watery, the chicken tough and although it was quite hot there was no real flavour, I had to pour the water off my plate after it was filtered out through the rice. Zero measures in place for safety against Covid-19. No tables had been moved, no social distancing, no queuing, no masks, no visors, no plastic screens, no nothing. Absolutely zero care or effort. It was like going to the restaurant back in February 2020. Disgraceful in my opinion. Other establishments have put so much effort in and followed the guidelines, but Penshaw Tandoori has done nothing. Why do they think they are an exception?
