Ristorante Fiume — Restaurant in Sunderland

Unfortunately I had quite a negative experience with my first visit to Fiume. I’d heard lots of great things so decided to try eating there for myself. I was with my Mother-in-Law and my 5 yr old. The kids menu wasn’t what I would say an everyday meal would be. My daughter doesn’t like soup, potato skins or carrot sticks as a starter to a meal, maybe even the option of garlic bread would have been great. We had to wait at least half an hour for my daughters option of pizza to come - and then she had to decorate it herself, which she loved. But then it took another 30 minutes for her to even be able to eat it. The pepperoni was extremely spicy for an adult never mind a 5 yr old and then the options of ice lolly, ice cream or pre-frozen shake berry fruit wasn’t great for her either. The berries were too sour and she doesn’t like frozen desserts - they’re “too cold” apparently. Perhaps a chocolate cake size for a child or even a piece of normal cake would be a good option too. And that was just my daughters meal. We got there at 6:15. She didn’t eat until 7:15 and we didn’t leave until just before 8! Quite late for a little girl. My food was good. But my Mother In Laws pizza of bolognese wasn’t great. The dough was too soft in the middle, the bolognese sauce was just tomato purée - with bolognese usually garlic, onions, herbs etc add a nice twinge to the taste, hence being bolognese. And we had to ask if the pizza was actually bolognese because there wasn’t much mince in it at all. Unfortunately I would have been able to get better from a take away place. All in all I’m not quite sure I would ever visit here again. Which is a shame for my first visit. Only giving two stars and not one because the desserts were good. We had the chocolate cake and it was neatly presented, wasn’t too heavy on the stomach and had just the right amount...

We've just come back from our son's birthday meal really disappointed. Starters were all good but the garlic breads were a little under cooked. Main meals were varied in quality. Lasagne chosen by my mum was nice. My husband's tuscan pasta was poor with very little spicy sausage in it and he felt the portion was a little small when compared to my son's child's portion. My son's napoli pasta was so bland he only ate about 5 pieces and then refused to eat any more. My eldest son and birthday boy enjoyed his bolonaise pizza. I chose the fuime pasta for a change as when we go to an Italian I always choose lasagne. What a mistake! It was so greasy, the chicken was so tough, the pancetta overcooked and I think they'd totally forgotten the chilli. Hence very little of it was eaten. My daughter had chicken bites and chips and she ate all of them. She also chose the ice cream with a choice of toppings which were a big hit as was the chocolate brownie my son had. The chocolate and salted caramel tart with raspberry sorbet was nice as was the sticky toffee pudding. When we asked for a decaf coffee, they politely informed us they were changing supplier as they thought the one they had had a bad taste. A normal latte was ordered but they charged us 10p for decaf on the bill. Getting to the bill, make sure you check yours. Ours had an extra pint and a half of moretti on and they charged all the kids food courses individally instead of the £6.95 including drink. They did rectify the bill without question. The waitress was pleasant and friendly but possibly due to lack of experience she didn't query why we'd left so much food. All in all a very disappointing time for our son's thirteenth birthday. Won't be back...

Very poor experience!

We used to come here regularly years ago but found the quality went down hill and started to go elsewhere, we decided due to the Eat our scheme we would give it another try.

Firstly the service was good staff very attentive unfortunately that’s the end of anything good.

Firstly we asked about the special menu to be told they weren’t doing that in August due to the eat out scheme ( I mentioned that it was still being advertised on there website so they should honour this) we where told no.

They also have a restricted menu compared to normal.

The food then came, starters acceptable but nothing special.

Issues came with the Mains 3/4 very bland hardly any flavour at all, one dish Prawn and Salmon had no salmon in at all, we did address these issue and where offered alternatives but as 3/4 had been very poor we choose not too as we had lost faith In there ability’s at this point.

Pricing we paid £92 with government discount £51. If the special had been on without the after the price would have only been £59 so not much of a discount especially when still advertising there special menu on there website!

We will never return again. Very sad as this used to be an amazing restraint who could be using the way out scheme to bring custom back but...
