We had a table for 8 booked for Sunday lunch. I had my three year old with me and when the food came out his meal didn’t come with everyone else’s. When all the adult meals were on the table the waitress asked if that was everything and we told her no, there’s a child’s dinner as well. His meal took another 5 minutes to come and he was crying because he didn’t have any dinner. After we ate and plates were cleared away no one came to ask about desserts and I had to ask for the ice cream that came as part of the children’s meal. Even after I asked for the ice cream no one asked if we wanted anything else. The ice cream didn’t arrive, in the time we were waiting another table ordered and received hot desserts and I had to ask for the ice cream again. About two minutes after we got the ice cream a member of staff came and told us we had to be off the table in 5 minutes. The food was ok but I would say it is quantity over quality, the portions were...

We went in for dinner and the staff seemed friendly enough, when we were seated in the restaurant we were quickly given our drinks, however we were left waiting to order our food for almost 30 minutes, we could hear laughter from the bar as the bar staff and waitresses chatted with what appeared to be local regulars, we had considered leaving until I went to the bar to order food and ask for more drinks, I almost felt out of place and that I was in the wrong for disturbing the staff.

When our order arrived we discovered it was stodgy and barely hot, not wanting to make a fuss we ate what we could paid and left no check back by staff during our meal.

We had again considered if we should say something as we paid but again staff appeared more focused of the 2...

Took my wife, mother and sister for lunch at the Shipwrights. We were welcomed by very friendly staff and a very comfortable atmosphere. The menu choice is amazing as is the food itself. My wife and I had cod whilst others had beef and gammon. All was delicious. Only two of the party had deserts, one had ginger pudding with custard which looked fabulous and the other was an Eaton mess, the only criticism is that the Eaton mess had no cream but other than that a perfect meal was had by all. We travelled down from Scotland in order to visit this establishment and catch up with family and we were not disappointed. We cannot recommend this place highly enough and we will be returning VERY soon. Thank you all for an amazing...

Having found by accident and noticing cask ale and craft beer sign I decided to take dad, got there asked if I could grab some chips at the bar, was shown to the restaurant side, at which point everything went down hill, Ale options = bottled Abbots (or Smiths on tap) Diet coke wasnt, it was either Pepsi or coke, Ordered 1x cheesy chips 1 x normal chips only normal came out, not sure if the lass was having a bad day or was just hacked off that I just wanted chips and not a big dinner. The other food did look really good and the chips were scrumptious, and had it not been for the disappointing signage and service I'd be back in a heart beat for the food.

My friends in Sunderland hosted a Sunday lunch for my wife and I when we came up for a weekend visit from London. It was a unique experience just to eat in a 300 year old building that had a rich history of the part it played for the shipbuilding and related industry on the River Wear that Sunderland was once globally famous for. The service was excellent. The traditional Sunday lunch was roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. The serving was huge and generous. Probably large enough for 3 adults. I had mushroom soup to start with. It was very well home made.

Off the beaten track. Surrounding area in the summer would be lovely. Pub itself quaint & charming old english pub. Very reasonably priced 2 x mains 2 x pudding all for just over £42 which was very good for this. Not the best food I've eaten but then again not the worst I've eaten either. Just regular pub grub. Would I return probably not but glad I tried. A little out my way. If you are in area.
