This place for many years was always a great little goto place with friends or family as always something for everyone and nothing for anyone to be upset about. In recent months it has become very hit and miss but yesterday properly took the biscuit. The reason that this rating is as high as 2 stars is because the guy that was out front greeted everyone that arrived and was very pleasant. You can see from my pictures that maybe half the mixed grill was partially grilled or not at all and the Chicken and Sausages especially tasted dreadful. The Steak ironically was over cooked!! The butter served with the Bread and Butter was disgusting and tasted more like margarine. I asked what it was and the picture I was shown was a brown box that had written on it "Greene King Salted Butter". The server was informed of the above and took one sausage back to spend an extra 5 minutes on the radiator but at the end of the meal when pretty much everything was left just apologised. Spending £44.40 and yet again not receiving an acceptable standard doesnt seem to bother them as it has become normal for them. This is why so many places are closing because customers are sick and tired of being fed like dogs and disrespected. This place needs a strong management team and a good area manager that is going to take this once great place back to how it was. Just because a place is sometimes busy doesn't make it good. I never saw it so quiet yesterday with just 3 other tables occupied. The kitchen staff were all absolutely filthy and if I had seen the state of them before ordering I would have left. Those basic standards not being met and having no self respect has a knock on effect. It was like a classroom with no teacher. On a positive note, the...

BEWARE OF THE CAR PARK! This is not a review of the food or drink, but a warning about the disgraceful way this establishment treats potential customers.
I drove to The Sloop Inn and pulled into their car park. I went inside, used the toilet, and then decided to look at the menu. I had a quick drink but decided not to eat there and left 12minutes later
WEEKS LATER, I received a £100 Penalty Charge Notice in the post from a private parking company, alleging I had breached the terms of using The Sloop Inn's car park. I was furious.
I appealed immediately, explaining that I was a genuine visitor. The appeal was rejected with a template response stating that I "failed to purchase a meal or drink" and therefore was not a valid user. There was no option to provide a statement or evidence. It's a blatant trap.
The Sloop Inn has outsourced its customer relations to a predatory company designed to extract money from people. The fact that they fine you for the "crime" of popping in to check the place out is shameful. How do they expect to attract new customers with this hostile policy?
We will never, ever attempt to visit again. This has left a terrible taste in my mouth. Avoid this place and their money-grabbing car park scheme. That £100 "fine" has cost them a lifetime of potential business from us and everyone we know. An utterly disgraceful...
Read moreCame for a last minute evening meal here on Monday 18th April. After having come here for the past 10 years we were not expected to feel disappointed as all previous experiences had been fantastic. However this time we were not impressed at all at the poor customer service. After sitting at a table which was sticky were greeted and served by a lovely gentleman, I believe his name was Josh. He explained to us how the kitchen would be shortly closing due to a new menu being tested out so we would need to put our food order in quickly. We had absolutely no problem with this nor the fact that we were unable to have dessert as he was apologetic and lovely about it! However, as we were finishing our meal (which was delicious never the less) we were interrupted by around 6 members of staff placing new menus on the tables. This was easily a 2 person job yet 6 or 7 were stood around, loudly conversing and swearing- this did not create a good atmosphere and we felt obliged to leave shortly after. Real shame this evening as we had never had a bad encounter however I must say we left very unhappy. Hopefully this was a one off and we won't experience this level of customer service in future visits. Praise to Josh though for explaining well and his good customer service despite the horrible job of having to tell people they...
