What can I say? I booked just under a month ago stating that it was my 35th wedding anniversary and wanted to make it a special night. So we were greeted and shown to our table. Great. Food order taken. Again a positive. Starters arrived and both were lovely.... Then. After waiting a while the waitress came back and asked us if we would like to see the desert menu 🙄. Not even had the main course yet!... So we sat there waiting to be asked if we would like a drink, but nothing.. Had to ask for the wine menu. Ordered the wine but after 15 mins no arrival ! Eventually got the attention of a member of staff who asked the manager who was passing.. and he just said yes they want a Shiraz and two glasses... .Please.... So now we have a bottle of wine and no main course. Next! Main course turns up, and waitress puts things down but in her haste throws chips into my glass of red wine. Fantastic! So the food was lovely. But at the end of this we decided to have a short to finnish the night. Again my wife ordered a drambuie with an ice cube, but it took that long to get to us the ice cube had melted. My wife asked where it was and asked if she could have another. To be told it was there but it's melted 🤔. So the night that I hoped would be so special turned out be such a...

A lovely pub with a seating area outside you could also sit on the wall opposite as well which is nice. They have a good selection of drinks as well as a few ales to choose from too.

The food is a little pricey but looks good and have been told it is good especially the fresh seafood selection.

It is usually easy to find a place to sit though at time of writing we are in the lair of coronavirus so seats may become a little difficult.

I would ring and see if you can book a table. It sits beside the estuary and rail track so the view is nice too.

Popular with cyclists.

Dog friendly outside for sure.

Visited again a few weeks later and again it was busy outside I ate scampi and chips they were good but would have expected a few more pieces of scampi.

Took parents a month later and they loved the food and pub.

Haddock and chips as well as crab sandwich are also very nice too.

The speciality is clearly the fish/shell fish dishes. They look amazing for sure.

Now I have experienced the Mussels in Orkney Sauce again very nice.

Crab sandwich is excellent as was the haddock and chips.

A really good place to visit food is not cheap but is excellent quality, highly...

I've been here on several occasions and was always very impressed. However the last visit was horrendous. They have 32 different mussel dishes on the menu and I recommend you stay away from all of them. The mussels I had weren't cleaned, festooned with huge barnacles that made the sauce bitter and trailing little green beards. But worst of all was the very dead and very disgusting mussel I inadvertently popped into my mouth while in conversation with family and friends. The overwhelmingly foul taste made me retch for hours afterwards and I consider myself lucky that I wasn't poisoned. I spat it out and quickly went to the toilet to sluice my mouth out with water. When I came back I was informed that the mussels were fresh every day and it was a "gritty" one that I had gotten. This added insult to injury, they obviously hadn't checked the mussels before cooking (beards and barnacles), had served me a rancid one and then tried to persuade me that I was the one in the wrong, it wasn't dead and festering after all, I was imagining things. Well I'm sure they can imagine that I won't be visiting their...

First time we've been to the Anchor Inn in years as food was so aweful last time we went. We visited for lunch today, the moules marinieres was nice, and piping hot, although a bit heavy on the cream and the small portion was small for nearly £13!!! We were disappointed with the crab sandwich at just shy of £10! Bread wasn't very nice, described as grannery but not like any grannery bread I've ever had, it was more like seeded and no crispy crust, the crab was generous, but dense, in my opinion the crab could have done with some additions to lift it a touch, some mayo, lemon and tabasco sauce perhaps?? We've just been holidaying on the North Norfolk coast and had lots of delicious Cromer crab sandwiches, this one wasn't comparable in any way. On a positive note it's a lovely pub in a great location and the service was very good, oh and they serve a great pint of Inches Cider!

This was a first visit to a pub that we've been past lots of times. Has a good reputation for fish dishes and so that's what we all had. Not disappointed at all with the food or beer, all of which were excellent. Staff were polite and attentive. Points to note for other visitors: 1. although arriving early we noted that just about every table was reserved and so it would definitely be worth booking in advance. Also I'd recommend an early arrival as there's not a lot of parking. 2. If you don't like fish dishes then you're probably better going elsewhere as the non-fish choice was fairly limited by comparison. We had no problem finding something we liked though. 3. There is a kids menu for smaller visitors. 4. The vast majority of the tables are inside and the handful of those outside are next to the road and within the covered smoking area.
