Went for lunch and was a great meal. Booked for lunch and table was ready on arrival. Good selection of beer. I had a pint and on pulling the bar staff noticed may of been first of the day which they noticed, didn't serve me and pulled through untill clear and proper. Bonus points to the bar staff. Also good selection of fermented fruit based beverages my wife seems to like. Also has WiFi which anyone with kids will appreciate. Good hearty menu with some thing for everyone. Decent looking specials board too. I had liver and bacon on recommendation from our server, which was very well cooked and very flavorful. My son had sausage and mash which he very much liked. Now my wife's food, which could of made this a 2 star review, was classic fish and chips. When it first arrived my wife noted was very oily, upon closer inspection hadn't been drained properly and was too much excess which wouldn't have been nice to eat. This was raised with one of the waitresses who took it back to the kitchen. Were told they would prepare a fresh portion. This arrived promptly and my wife said was absolutely perfect. Very tasty with amazing flavour and the home cooked chips perfect. The first was clearly a simple mistake in the heat of service. It happens. It's the way they delt with and rectified that made it great experience. Great food, excellent service....

Went here for Sunday lunch, they had everything but Chicken or Turkey, all red meat, they stop serving at 14.30, so we booked for 14.00, Went there for 13.50, showed to our table, waited until 14.23 to be asked were we ready to order, we both went for Beef, unfortunately when it served it looked lovely, but the Beef was red, l asked if they could make mine a bit more well done, this is what they did, we had to sit on a table by four other people, who were eating their food, we were rather close to their table, and it felt as if we were involved in their conversation, there was another table but it had reserved on it, however no-one came, our table felt so sticky, so l wiped it with my servett, made no difference, when the people next to us had eaten there's, along came ours, and the guy could not keep his eyes off my plate of food, at one time l felt if l should ask if he would like some of mine, anyway, we felt as if people were looking at us, maybe they have never sat next to two Australians before, we just felt very awkward, even when we paid, people in the bar just stopped and looked at us, we were glad to go, the price was not bad really, will we go back again?...

Not as good as our first visit, sadly. We visited on Sunday with friends as our previous experience had been fab but, having booked two weeks before, as soon as we walked in we were told at 1pm that we had to be finished by 2.30pm as they had regular customers wanting 'their' table. I was a little miffed but thought hour and half maybe enough. We ordered our meals very quickly, the roast beef was a little chewy but everyone was happy and it was served quickly and piping hot. Lovely waitress called Rachel if I remember, very friendly and helpful. We then ordered dessert and were not keeping an eye on the time and were not asked to move when a couple arrived and were asked to sit on an opposite table. The gent did not appear happy at all and when served his meal was giving us disgruntled looks, bless him. To him, we are sorry we ruined your sunday roast it was not our intention and it was not our decision to be placed on YOUR table, that was the decision of the staff. Sadly, though it slightly put us...

Absolutely fantastic meal here last night, 30th Aug 24. We were a table of 8, 4 kids4 adults. I shared a shelfish seafood platter which was incredible so much quality fresh muscles, prawn, welks l. But the lobster was the best bit . All in a delicious garlic butter. Lots there. The other adults had had a steak.and fish and chips and highly rated their meals for it's quality, portion freshnest Kids demolished their mac and cheese. Additionally we had some dessert. The banoffe wasted best I have ever eaten. The service matched the quality of food. Drink choice waas also of a good standard with fantastic variation of wines and some cask ales. Maddy (i think her name was) was tentative, helpful and friendly. Give her a pay rise! The pub it's self is an very old building with so much character, and low beams (no problem for me) We will certainly return when we next in Dawlish area.

Great menu, food really good especially the Laksa which is nice and spicy. Had the Gammon steak several time. Really good. The Steak was good too, tasty and tender. Chips are always well cooked. Plenty of good Beers and a few Ciders but no real West Country cider, which is a shame. Staff are friendly and helpful but can get a bit stretched so be patient after all it’s a nice place to sit and have a drink. However social distancing was difficult and staff weren’t wearing masks. I didn’t see any hand sanitiser and the toilets are outside where it’s very cold, so hot water is hard to find.

Beautiful old fashioned pub. Drinks at the bar minimize the waiting timešŸ‘they had few alcohol free bottled beer and cider options. Lovely food much better than expected on holidays. I chose from the specials board the hake with chips and the soup, both big portions. We're are heading back there tomorrow againšŸ˜‰ UPDATE:We went back next day and food was just gorgeous, had veggie burger and chicken pot and 2 desserts
