Me and my partner decided to go for a meal tonight as a treat. Really looked forward to it as we hadn't been here for months. First off, we weren't greeted at all when arriving even though a short, dark hair, serious looking bloke who looked like he was the manager/supervisor saw us but completely ignored us, so we had to ask if we could sit down where we chose to sit. Secondly, when ordering drinks, an older woman at the bar who looked to be the manager or owner of the pub dressed as if she couldn't be bothered and just put her slouchy clothes on and didn't have the muscles to even smile and was very short with us. We then had our starter which was tasty (squid rings), shortly after we had our mains served. One chicken burger and one plain. me and my partner both looked at each other and said they were disgusting, completely tasteless. When we paid for our tab at the end, the short dark haired serious looking bloke asked if we enjoyed our food, I told him the truth and said no, the burgers were tasteless. The older, round looking woman next to him said why? Which I said, they tasted like supermarket burgers which she disagreed and said they were fresh. They certainly weren't fresh and didn't taste lile a decent burger. She made out that I was a lier and didn't even take into account that I wasn't happy. She quietly under her breathe not wanting to say 'sorry'. We didn't even get offered a free drink or money off at all. Completely shocked by the poor management and by the staff who look to be in charge who have no professional skills what so ever and shouldnt be running that pub. We won't be eating here again and it has proven that the owners before did a better job. Such a shame as it's a...
Read moreFrom the moment my wife and I walked through the door we were made to feel very welcome and it continued that way throughout our stay. The book in time for our room was 3pm but we arrived at 12.00 as we were meeting my Bruv and Sis for lunch. Although we only had Gammon and chips with egg and pineapple and Jacket potato, I must say it was delicious. After having our lunch and a few drinks it was soon 3pm. My wife and I said goodbye to my Bruv and Sis and we booked in. We were shown to our room, and to be honest we were completely shocked. My wife and I stay away quite often and believe me when I say this room, in fact the whole place knocks spots off some of the 4* properties we have stayed in. The accommodation was clean and fresh, in fact it looked brand new. I did try to find something wrong with the room so I could have a little moan to the wife, but I couldn't find a thing wrong. I even looked everywhere for maybe a bit of dust but found none. The room was super clean, in fact the whole place was. My wife and I were (and still are) well impressed. The breakfast was superb and there was plenty of it. This was honestly one of the best places my wife and I have EVER stayed in, and coming from us that is really saying something as our standards are very high. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Barn...
Read moreNew to the area we have been checking out the local pubs for future use with family and friends. Our first time to the Barn Owl we walked the mile and a half from our house, through Aller Woods, got slightly lost and arrived at 9.40pm exactly. We were greeted by a smiling and friendly young lass who asked what we would like. Then the lady manager stepped in and said last orders had been called and refused to serve us. I carefully explained that we had walked and were rather thirsty, we had arrived less than 30 seconds after" last orders" had been called, I hasten to add not "time". She didn't care, rules were rules. Disappointed, and feeling there was no point in pleading further, I silently turned to leave, the manager, to our backs, said, "set out earlier next time".
This was in front of three junior staff! What an excellent example of poor customer relations she showed them. We are pensioners and were sober and causing no problem, there was no reason to be so rude.
My review is for that one particular lady, representing the pub, not the pub or the rest of the staff as we were not given the opportunity to use this public house. Her attitude has probably lost the pub hundreds of pounds from us over the next few years as our visiting friends and family will not be "setting out" towards The Barn...
