We went for breakfast on Saturday 27 Aug 2022 and had an awful experience. Fair enough it was the Gone Wild festival and they were very busy. But they seemed wholly unprepared and the service was diabolical. I will explain...(strap yourself in!)
We had booked a table for 8; 4 adults and 4 children. They were busy but there were still tables free when we arrived at 0930. They took drinks orders but we ended up waiting for about 50 minutes for a pot of tea, 2 cappuccinos and some milk for the kids. We didn't even mind that. It was the attitude of the waitress that was totally awful. Drinks plonked on the table with a grunt. No apology for the wait. We enquired about our food, ordered just after the drinks. The waitress muttered something about being busy and shuffled off. No explanation.
We asked again about our food. We were told there were two tables in front of us. Another 40 minutes went by. We asked again. There seemed to be a lady at the front desk doing to meet and greets as people walked in, yet getting her attention whilst we were sat yards away seemed an impossible task.
Eventually our food did arrive an hour and a half after ordering. We didn't really mind the wait so much as the attitude of the people serving. Honestly I never complain about anything but this service was like watching an episode of Fawley Towers!! Basil at his worst!!
Like the drinks the food was plonked on the table. We sorted out which was whos. My wife pointed to eggshell on her plate. The waitress flicked it off with her fingernail!! Again no apology, no effort to explain or engage with us at all. Just surly attitude. It was very disappointing.
I went to pay. More waiting. Honesty the thought of just walking out did occur to me. I was willing to forgive the time delay, the lost time at the festival. But the attitude of the staff was very poor. We paid. We live locally. We definetly won't...
Read moreI am writing this review rather than his lordship my very own prince of Darkness as his review would be brutal and harsh. The first visit would have got a 5 star rating for 3 drinks and 3 cream teas which the scones were fabulous, however we returned for a visit and were frankly treated appalling. We were asked to wait whilst they prepared a table which was fine, shown to the table and then were left for 20 minutes despite the waiter saying clearly he would be back in a minute to take our order. The final straw was seeing others seated after us being served before us. Despite trying to get his attention we were just left. We upped and left making it clear to the individual of our unhappiness. I have given it 3 stars based on the previous experienced and taken 2 stars off for the last visit despite his lordship wanting to 1 star it. If you get better service than us the cream...
Read moreA delightful little bistro with delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere.
Having not been here before, but passing all the time, I decided to give this spot a try as I had family visiting. Admittedly, I was a little worried because I wanted something representative of locally sourced foods such as a heart ploughman's lunch, I wasn't disappointed.
The menu had something for everyone, but surprisingly all my guests had the Ploughman's (Cheddar, Brie and Brixham crab) and thoroughly enjoyed the fresh, tasty, and generous lunch. The granary bread was a perfect match for all 3 of the meals. I had the open roast beef sandwich which was perfect and came with a generous portion of beef, perfectly cooked and full of flavour.
The luscombe soft drinks were also a hit with everyone, along with a rich hot chocolate.
Overall, my entire experience was great, from the meal, staff...
