Booked on spec enhanced by the good reviews.

We were not disappointed our friends had the soup of the day with the rack of ribs, which comes served with mashed potato not masses of chips, as their main. They also had a side salad. The rack of ribs beat them on its own so you get more than sufficient for those of a large meal disposition.

My wife and I chose less substantial meals and whilst the sweet menu looked inviting none of us had the inner space to take on a serious extra load of food.

All in all a very pleasant couple of hours with, I am told, decent beer. The whole starter and mains with drinks was at a reasonable price for four. We will be back with other friends to see how they get on with the Rack of Ribs, a messy but guilty pleasure.

As an informal eating house there is much to commend The Cleeve only slight downside is parking which is deep not wide so you can find you are blocked in if you arrive early and don't wish to stay until lock down... So are advised to take two cars then you can all depart without having to check all the other customers to find the obstructing car's owner. Also access is a little difficult for those with impaired mobility not impossible but needs care on the uneven surfaces of the steps although a section of tarmac serving other properties gives access to the main entrance and door via the garden path.

The Cleeve is extremely popular aided by friendly staff who'll rise to mild teasing and respond in kind to your banter. It is a village pub popular with the local residents so you get the authentic village pub experience not the 'plastic pleasures' of a 'social entertainments' chain. The large garden has various seating areas so on a warm summer evening sitting outside until it is dark was...

2024 We went after a couple of visits and over a long period of years again and found out that The Cleave has had new owners quite recently. As one has to remember that food rating can be a very personal matter, we must say that this lunch (29th of Dec.) was absolutely exceptional and worth coming back. We have had a Sunday Roast with Pork and a beautiful Gamekeepers-Pie. The gravy was absolutely brilliant. Always remember to order an extra boat of gravy!! Service very very good and friendly with a warm welcome. So good, we asked to put us down for two more pre-booked visits. Can't wait. Go and have your experience, you won't regret it. Thanks to the Team and all the best for the new Year and new business. * 2019 ** today I must write this review about my experience of my dish on Boxing Day 2019. I did order a Steak and Suet Pie. ..... THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY EXTRAORDINARY ....... what perfect and hearty dish, very very meaty at all. The chef did not sparse out on steak meat ( as you can sometimes normally encounter) I did wonder I could manage it at all. The veggies were perfectly prepared and all in all I loved it very very much. So ----- if you are around on Dartmoor go and visit LUSTLEIGH´s "THE CLEAVE". I hope they keep it for a good long time...

We arrived and were greeted by a very helpful lady who let us know what time food would be available and then we went for a walk, before coming back for some grub! We entered the building and were welcomed by a very friendly young man, who laid out our seating options for us. We decided to sit outside because it was less covid-y, although inside was equipped with a plentiful supply of hand sanitizer and appropriately spaced tables. The staff were really good at ensuring were were all safe, adhering to social distancing rules, but while making us feel really comfortable at the same time. Our details were even taken for track and trace which I was really impressed with. When the food arrived, I was blown away. I had the beef burger because I had been wanting beef ALL week! It was so juicy and seasoned marvelously. My friend had the vegetable lasagna and she thought it was stunning and delicious. And so that was that. We paid and were on our way. This is not sarcasm, it's passion. I promise. We just had a lovely meal and a...

Came here for a birthday meal with my parents having searched around a bit for somewhere out of the way where we hadn't been, we decided on here and weren't disappointed, the pub itself is gorgeous with many original features as is/does the village, it seems quite likely that you'll struggle to park as the village was absolutely packed everywhere where parking could possibly be achieved, luckily we managed to find somewhere and the village is small, picturesque and oh so quiet so you really don't mind taking the little walk between where you've had to park and the cleave. The staff that served us were very friendly and chatty which was nice, and the food was very good too, I had a spinach and feta pastry which I thoroughly enjoyed and no complaints from the parents either. Overall I would definitely recommend the cleave and definitely plan to return at some point.

Idyllic pub, in an idyllic village, on the edge of idyllic Dartmoor. Wish it was my local. Had lunch here last week in the pretty beer garden on a glorious September day. Calamari were quite incredible, I could have stuffed them down until they came out of my ears! Pan-fried venison haunch with red wine and juniper jus was also an absolute triumph. The dogs usually get a wee tidbit, but this was just too tasty, so I gobbled it all up much to the hounds' consternation. I was a bit surprised to tell you the truth about how good the food was as I think I've become so used to pub food being rather disappointing and uninspired. But this was a memorable lunch all washed down with a few cold Tarka lagers in the sunshine. What a great day it was!

Beautiful old inn in the lovely village of Lustleigh. Had a nice little wander round the village before lunch, then an excellent pint of Otter and a veggie lasagne in the garden. Bar staff were really friendly and it was so peaceful. I'm slowly working my way around the pubs of Dartmoor and this is up there with the best! Oh and a kind local complimented us on our well-behaved children which is always nice! Only thing to note is that most of the routes to the village are typical Dartmoor lanes, not for those concerned about brambles against their cars (if you're heading to North Bovey afterwards, go back towards the main road and ignore your SatNav, speaking from experience!).
