Went here for Sunday roast today, purely on the high recommendations in these reviews. What an utter disappointment. We've been searching for the best roast around Exeter for a while now and this was the worst by far. Soggy roast potatoes that seemed uncooked. Uninspiring kale, cauliflower cheese that wasn't very cheesy. The gravy was watery and seemed to be a packet mix. They had ran out of the vegetarian nut roast which I was told was available when I booked. They only do two sittings in the afternoon so they had none left after the first sitting! They also ran out of beef too, so only pork available to meat eaters. All in all, a thoroughly depressing experience and one we won't repeat. Either the reviews on here are all made up or the people submitting them have never had a decent roast in their life. Oh, and the owner takes criticism personally and doesn't use it as an opportunity to improve their business and encourage people to return. I'd try The Oddfellows in Exeter or The Beer Engine at Newton St Cyres. Both packed out on a Sunday because their...
Read moreA really warm welcome from the lovely owners and staff. We were a large party who were very well looked after for a lunchtime meal. It was a really enjoyable experience and the extensive outdoor space made it a perfect venue in the sunshine. Everything was spotlessly clean, neat and smart. Indoors is quaint and very cosy and we’d have been more than happy to eat indoors had it been raining. The food was exactly what it said on the menu - they had kept it simple and delicious. All the options we had between us were really tasty and everyone enjoyed their meals. The children were also well catered for. I would definitely recommend it as a place to stop for a meal and beverage. It is homely, comfortable and friendly. The prices are extremely reasonable. Thank you to the staff for making it a great...
Read moreWe went for lunch last Sunday, but found that the menu was somewhat limited. I had the burger with chips, my wife had baked Camembert. Although the service was friendly and the beer good, the quality of the meals was woefully poor. My meal appeared to be very much out of a packet - frozen peas, frozen chips and an awful burger, which seemed to be lacking in beef. My wife's meal consisted of a baked Camembert with slices of baguette, nothing else. She asked for a side salad, for which she had to pay, and this seemed to be a reminder of such a salad in the '60's - slices of tomato and cucumber on lettuce. We had been here a couple of years ago were impressed with the food at that time, but now it was extremely...
