We chose this pub because it advertises Pet Friendly and Family Friendly, but this is not true. We were a large party of 6 adults, 4 teenagers and 4 younger children plus one small dog. The party split in two with 2 adults and the younger children sitting separately from the rest of us. After taking our order we were advised that the beer we had bought the 16-year-olds could not be consumed with the meal due to Green King's policy, although the law states otherwise! We were not shown this policy. Later on, the woman who appeared to be the glass collector, very rudely told us that the dog was not allowed but that we could all move to the bar. However, the teenagers were not allowed in the bar area! The barmaid joined her and stood there with her arms crossed in a very hostile way. Neither showed any customer service skills or manners whatsoever. In the end, one of our party (who was also registered disabled) was forced to eat outside with the dog. Shocking!
During the meal, the glass collector returned and accused us of "allowing your children to run riot in my pub". She was referring to the younger children with the separate party. They were not running riot at all. Again, no customer service or manners.
The food splatters on the walls were off-putting, the whole place needs a good clean up and some of the staff need to be trained in customer service. Green King is not well represented by this establishment! The food was ok and the guy who served us was friendly enough but overall, this was not a...
Read moreWe had ordered a vegan meal which came with sides and after not receiving one of them (not a big issue by itself), the chef emerged and told us we would not be getting it because "your vegan product is cooked in the oven and the side is cooked in the fryer". We half assumed this was a question on if we'd have minded the side cooked in proximity to animal products (we wouldn't), but instead was told flat out the item wouldn't be included in our meal despite us paying the same as anyone else. To cap this off, when we mentioned the menu should probably be adjusted to inform customers of this, he simply walked off sneering "because we can change that overnight".
Don't like to leave reviews like this but this was just unacceptable behaviour and a bizarre form of discrimination - I wouldn't treat any customer like this, especially not one who I'd just informed was lied to about the contents of their meal. The burger was bland and the chips/halloumi was clearly burnt, but that is what pushed us over the edge and is why we wanted to warn others of our experience. Hope this is not a...
Read moreWe had such a lovely visit to the Hare and Hounds recently, and I can't recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with staff who genuinely care about their guests comfort and experience.
The food was absolutely delicious, hearty, well presented, and full of flavour. Everything we tried was cooked to perfection.
What really stood out, though, was the exceptional service. Serena, in particular, went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. My daughter experiences anxiety in busy or unfamiliar settings, and Serena's kindness, patience, and thoughtful approach made all the difference. She quietly checked in to ensure my daughter felt comfortable, offered flexible seating options, and created a calm, inclusive environment that allowed us all to relax and enjoy our meal.
It's rare to find a place that combines great food with such genuine hospitality and emotional intelligence. The Hare and Hounds isnât just a pub.. itâs a place where people are cared for. Weâll...
