I never leave reviews but I wanted to warn anyone who is looking to eat here for any sort of celebration. Don’t bother.
This evening was my grandparents 60th anniversary, 14 of just had been booked in for months for such a special occasion. So it not like they didn’t know we were coming.
When we arrived the table had been half laid, no one was there to greet us. After 30 minutes a young lady came to take our drinks, she was lovely and was really trying hard to take the orders but had obviously just started. (I do not blame her for any of this, I have worked in hospitality for years and I understand new staff learn on the job) what I do not expect is 10 minutes later after we hadn’t even being given so much as a glass of water is for the manager to arrive and blame everything on her because “she hasn’t been with us long and she got scared”.
When finally the drinks came (thank god) it was time to take the orders! (we had nearly been there an hour by this point).
This was just the beginning, my grandmother was very stressed by this point and I could tell was very upset that she had invited so many people out for dinner for it all to go so wrong so quickly.
The starters arrived; my fiancé ordered the prawns, 4 to be exact. Myself and 8 others ordered the baked mushrooms; it looked like soup, a bowl of cheese sauce and boiled tinned mushrooms floating around in it accompanied by 3 dry off cuts of bread.
The main was actually lovely, and I can’t complain about that so well done.
The manager then announced to apologise the desert would be on him. Great!
When the puddings arrived it all started again, my cousin found a hair in her lemon sorbet which was then replaced with blackberry sorbet after being told they only had lemon. My step mum ordered apple crumble, she received rhubarb mush. Sticky toffee puddings that arrived where dry toffee flavoured cakes.
There was no real apology but hey we got the puddings free, you know the ones with the hair and things we didn’t order.
I do not blame the staff that work there as they only seemed to be doing as they were told, the manager does not seem to care about much really.
Luckily the evening was saved by the company. We just had an...
Read moreReal shame , went today as we have been many Sundays before, for a roast. The pub has changed management, we were told it had reopened 3weeks ago. Before my husband and I used to just walk in and request a table, never have we been turned away, but today we walked in to an empty bar and were asked if we had booked? So obviously now it would seem the way forward we would have to book, ok, not really a problem, but we were told “we are really busy,” no one was seated at any of the tables, in fact we were told”menus open at 12” and it was 11:50am , but we can squeeze you in if you sit now! Great, thank you, we sit and for the whole hour and a half not another guest enters the restaurant. Food was disappointing, Roast beef(served pink was stated on the menu) was over cooked and very chewy, roast potatoes were burnt along with the Yorkshire puddings, and the vegetables even though were cooked just as I like had a taste almost like the water was soapy, strange taste. Any way we decided on desserts, White Chocolate and Almond bread and butter pudding, and a Summer Fruit Tart, and we waited and waited, ridiculous amount of time for two puddings that were obviously not going to be cooked to order, I think they were probably defrosting the fruit tart. Such a shame as it was always a treat to go in there , prices have gone up too, which I know everything has but with the quality of the food today ,just about polished it off for us and as we got in the car my husband said “ oh well won’t be going in there again! like I said , a...
Read moreVisited on Boxing Day lunchtime, so some elements may not be entirely indicative of their normal service levels. That caveat aside:
Pros: -Excellent and friendly service, really top class.
-Excellent range of drink and interesting menu choices.
-Sweets are ESPECIALLY good and worth making room for at the end.
-Lovely environment, atmosphere and a comfortable if unhurried dining experience.
-Freshly cooked, well-seasoned, flavoursome, attractive to the eye and utterly delicious food. There is considerable attention to detail in the serving.
On the bubble -Booking was perhaps a little haphazard. We’d been told one time on the phone, then another later one on arrival but was more or less sorted after a brief discussion with the house team.
Cons -Vegetarian menu options are quite limited in scope and scale. For example, my main (the curry) came in a portion size smaller than most people’s starters – exceptionally meagre I am afraid. Meat eaters seem to do better here. However, what did arrive WAS tasty…I would have just liked an adult portion size!
-Prices are typical for a more London centric venue (moderate high), albeit at a level which caused my Midlands eyebrows shot up a little.
-There was a moderate delay between ordering and each course arriving – possibly an artefact of the day we were here, and due to everything being freshly cooked! So be prepared to relax and be...
