On Sunday 1st September myself and my family (which consisted of two children, and six adults) went to this pub for a family get together to celebrate a family birthday. We chose the pub as it was roughly half way between all of our houses and knew nothing else about it before we arrived. By the time we left, we were all so delighted with our visit that I felt that I had to write this review.
Firstly, the new owners of this pub had only been serving food for 6 days on the day we arrived but if they hadn’t told us this it would not have been obvious at all because they were all excellent at not only knowing all about their menu to cater for the Vegetarian and celiac amongst our group but they were also really friendly and attentive which made us immediately feel like we had been locals who had been coming to the pub for years. The pub itself has a traditional pub kind of feel and although the tartan carpets and mismatched tables and chairs might put some people looking for a posh sit down meal off, the staff, food and drink selection at the pub make this pub a real gem that shouldn’t be missed.
Our experience at the pub was that the Sunday roasts we all had were all really nice. By that I mean the meat (Beef, Chicken or Pork), trimmings, Yorkshire puddings and potatoes were not only tasty and cooked really well but also generously sized. The nut roast was delicious, the childrens meals were equally as generous and the traditional desert selection and beers from the Rebellion brewery in Marlow were a perfect complement to the traditional pub menu. Being so close to a Junction of the M25 this pub would ideally suit anyone who like us needed somewhere to meet friends over a good traditional pub meal or just as equally any tourist who wanted to call in and experience excellent traditional english pub food. All I can add is that the new owners deserve top marks all round and I wish them all the best with their future. I hope to get the opportunity to return again soon....
Read moreAs a journalist who regularly reviews food and hospitality spots, I’ve seen the full spectrum – from the mediocre to the marvellous. But The Oaks Pub & Restaurant has genuinely earned a top spot on my list. In fact, I’d go so far as to say this has been my favourite place to review to date.
Why? Because everything about it was so effortlessly good, I didn’t have to think about what to write – the words just flowed, just like the quality food and exceptional service.
The food? 100% perfect. Every dish arrived beautifully presented, packed with flavour, and cooked to perfection. It’s the kind of menu that makes you excited to order, and even more excited when the plates land in front of you. No overthinking, no guesswork – just genuinely delicious food done right.
And then there’s the team. Davina and Alex were absolute stars – warm, attentive, and wonderfully down-to-earth. Their service felt natural and friendly, not forced or rehearsed. They’re a big part of what makes The Oaks feel so welcoming and memorable.
The atmosphere struck that rare balance between cosy and classy, making it ideal for everything from a quiet lunch to a celebratory dinner.
Final word? The Oaks doesn’t just serve great food – it serves an experience. It’s rare I leave a review without notes or second drafts. This one? Wrote itself – just like the...
Read moreWe have been ordering from this restaurant quite a bit during lockdown but the quality has just gone down hill over the last few months. What we didn’t mind paying a premium for for quality we are now really annoyed at the lack of standards drop drop in the food. The calamari has clearly been changed and now tasted rubbery and like it’s some cheap frozen food. The mixed kebab has for a second time come undercooked in parts and being pregnant it’s not acceptable to put a persons health at risk. Also the meat in the mixed kebab has also been considerably downsized. It’s the 3 time now in a row we have had a poor quality order, whilst u can expect a one off if they are busy but clearly this is the new standard so we won’t be ordering again. Don’t...
