The outside of the pub looks shabby and dirty and not in a rustic way, it just needs a clean. The inside looks like the 1970's, but with the added charm of giant TVs hanging off the wall which hypnotise the locals in to a trance and kill the little atmosphere that was left.
My friend asked for a high chair, and the landlady said "I'm too busy to get you one, maybe in 20 minutes..." Which seemed to be an obviously rude hint that the landlady didn't want children in.
At the end of a meal that I'd describe as 'edible', one of the babies had dropped some food (as kids do when they eat...they're babies) one of the staff plonked a dustpan and brush down on the table. We would have cleaned up after ourselves, but being passive-aggressively ordered to really took any of the niceties out of it. Read moreI don't get out much, so I'll confess to having been a little nervous at venturing into an unknown pub on my own in an area I barely knew - I came along to watch James Powlett sing and play guitar for the evening. I needn't have been worried. The bar staff were friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful. People I didn't know came over to chat with me throughout the evening and I didn't feel like the stranger in the corner for long. The highchairs are not suitable for younger children as they are wooden and the straps don't go tight so my 6 month old, who can sit unaided, kept slipping about and ended up on my lap. There are no changing facilities and was told I couldn't change wet nappy at my seat by could on the toilets floor! Which I of course refused to do.
Service was nice however we asked for toasted sandwiches and neither were. My tuna mayo was more a mayo sandwich and friends was dry cheese and ham as it wasn't...
