Yesterday my husband and I visited Ruby's at the Medway Inn because it was my birthday, and we like to go out for a birthday treat meal. This one was particularly special because my husband broke his strict diet of over 6 months to accompany me. I wish we hadn't.
We have been regulars at Ruby's and have enjoyed many lovely meals there even going so far as to recommend the place to our friends and family. We have both eaten in and had takeaways from here.
I ordered my favourite chicken jalfrezi and my husband chose his favourite chicken naga. We also had starters. For my starter I ordered a prawn dish which came with both salad and fried onions. I thought it odd but left the onions as they didn't really fit with the rest of the dish.
When my jalfrezi arrived, I attempted to scoop out my sauce, which I love but found that all I got was a spoonful of fried onions in a little bit of sauce.
It was fried onion overload. I mentioned it to my husband as he had ordered a different dish, and his was the same. There was also not the flavour there used to be.
Has the chef changed? Why was this meal so very different to all the rest we have had there? It's almost as though they are filling up their dishes with fried onion to hide the fact that you are getting less chicken.
Needless to say, it only takes one bad meal... we will not be returning, and we will no longer recommend Ruby's to our friends and family.
Such a shame it had to be like this on such a...

đ˝ď¸ Tiny but mighty. Dine-in space is cosyâthink âliving-room extensionâ rather than grand banquet hallâbut theyâll whisk your order straight over to the pub next-door. Table service plus bar stool? Chefâs kiss.
đ¸ Wallet-friendly flavour bomb. Prices sit firmly in the âhow is this only ÂŁ?â zone considering the rich sauces and generous portions.
đ Service had a nap. Needed to summon napkins, chutneys, and the bill with more hand-waving than a Bollywood dance number. Mightâve just caught our server on low battery.
𤤠Food = full send. Classic British-Indian takeaway goodness: fragrant spice, fluffy rice, naan the size of a steering wheel. âBangingâ is the scientific term.
𼥠Takeaway triumph. Grab it to go, stroll five metres, and youâre back cradling a pint while your jalfrezi stays volcanic.
TL;DR: Mouth-watering curry at bargain prices; service can lag but the flavours sprint. Bring patience, leave happy (and...
Read moreWe ordered for the first time from Rub's At the Medway Inn last night. Friday 24/04/2020 directly. Unfortunately the system did not recognise our address (its a new build) The order was taken without drama by the team member, who was polite and friendly anfd was knowledgable about the new builds in the area, which was reassuring. When we asked if it was possible to apply a discount for nhs doctors, we were offered 10%, which was welcomed.
Food arrived promptly by a delivery agent who was respectful of social distancing. I had to chase him to offer a tip and put it on the path so he didn't have to get too close to us. He also was really polite and thankful.
Food arrived hot, was of a good portion size and well packaged. Meat was succulent and the fresh vegetables were crisp and fresh.
All in all a positive experience. We will have no hesitation in ordering again from Ruby's. Excellent polite local service. #buylocal #supportsmallbusineess #stpetersvillage. ...
