A charming pub in the hamlet of East Peckham that sits next to the river Bourne. The former coaching inn dates back to the 16th century and has low wood beam ceilings ( you have to duck in some areas ) and the outside area is next to the river which is a lovely spot. The landlord and landlady were very welcoming and also accommodating as I arrived just as food service had ended. They kindly took my food order ( see pics ) The pub was quite busy for a Monday lunchtime and a number of customers were eating. The pub has a solid reputation for good food and I would imagine that if you want to enjoy Sunday lunch you would need to book. A couple of pub regulars spoke to me and had good things to say too! The pub itself is in good order, nice and clean etc. I used the toilet and everything was clean and in good order. The pub has a good sized car park. The pub has a website if you require further details of opening times and food service times plus you can view the menus.

Sit by river, feed ducks or fish. Good food at pub as well.

A pint of prawns and a Cashel Blue please. What a beautiful period pub. Set besides the river way, the Man of Kent looks beautiful. Enter and duck, the low ceilings may be quirky, but they are all character. Something many modern pubs lack. Staff are salt of the earth and the locals are lovely. The menu was surprisingly modern, offering a summer excerpt with plenty of zingy Asian inspired dishes. There is always the traditional section to fall back on if you don’t feel adventurous. The food is superb, the half pint of prawns (I opted for a starter portion size) was sublime. So fresh and tactile. The cheese selection of the cheese board was fantastic. The creamiest cheeses I’ve ever tasted. A lovely pub packing plenty of character, beautiful views, lovely people and interesting pub food.

Ordered a honey roasted vegetable tartlet with herb topping as well for a Sunday lunch. The meal was disappointing unfortunately with almost no honey flavour coming through which is like ordering cheesy chips but the cheese being tasteless. The vegetables were good and the tomato sauce accompanied it well. As for the price this is where the other star was unfortunately dropped due to being £13.50 for what realistically was a bowl of veg and some veg on the side with a little bit of pastry. I think a more reasonable price of £9.50 would be acceptable. The pastry on the other hand was well cooked with a firm structure. Servcie was friendly and prompt and the riverside setting created a...
