Never going here again. Used this restaurant a lot, including for taking my work team for Xmas dinner there for several years in a row. This is how you think customers deserve to be treated - we drive 14 miles to visit you, we order the Chefs Board (see attached screenshot) as a real treat (we're dieting, and this was the one 'treat' meal of our week, so as you can imagine we'd been looking forward to it for days). When it arrives it's nothing like what's listed on the attached menu (we especially wanted the camembert and the terrine, both of which were missing). Waitress says she'll ask the chef for some camembert. Comes back saying 'chef says if you want it you'll have to go the bar and pay for it'. I showed Waitress the menu I was referring to (it's on your Google page) and get told 'that's an old menu'. Nothing else. No attempt to rectify your online menu error. No apology. Just an option to return the food, or eat it. Wow. We ate the food you brought, only because we were very hungry. It was average. You've gone from one of our favourite places to eat, to one that we won't visit again, purely because of that 5 minute spell where something went wrong and you had the opportunity to fix it, but couldn't be bothered.

Spent bank holiday Jan 2nd 2023 here with my family for our last lunch out. I'm giving it a 4 star for its fabulous location, inspiring building and stunning, warm interior, it's the perfect country pub. The food was good and very tasty, only thing to mention for me was I would have liked a little more flavor. Kids meals are very good and they have a good choice for children. The service began very well indeed and I must add always has been in the past, although when we asked for the desert menu it took an easy 10 minutes to arrive, then when no one approached and a further 15 minutes past we decided to get the bill and leave and not have desert after all as we expected a lengthy wait. I will note the pub was not over busy at this point and I feel this was only a slight oversight from staff on the floor. Finally the beer, local, and tasty in particular the Big Tree amber ale. Worth a visit.

It's a shame to post a negative review of this place as there were several positives and it's in a lovely spot. We visited on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and sat outside as it was decent weather. The food was generally good, the main issue was with the service. The lady taking our order behind the bar was extremely unfriendly to the point of being rude and frankly looked in a very bad mood. Everyone can have an 'off' day, fine, however the food then took 40 minutes to arrive and we had to ask where it was. We were a group of 2 families sat at the same table and there was a large gap between the arrival of our meals, meaning that our friends were all but finished by the time our dishes arrived. When it did arrive, they'd missed part of our order. There are lots of good pub options in the area, some customer service training is required I'm afraid.

Nice meal out at @axe_cleaver tonight... I had the very tasty boneless beef rib with some very rich gravy, mash and veg followed by a gorgeous bakewell tart and custard...! Tried the @jamesonuk orange whisky...! Very nice indeed...! SO nice I even created a new drink of a hot chocolate with a shot of the orange whisky in and Terry's chocolate orange would be jealous how nice it tasted...! Even had to call at Tesco on the way home to grab a bottle to have some more when I got home...! Thanks to the smiling Beacon Brian (Dawn) serving us with a smile and pleasant conversstion...! (Helping us top up the drinks bill along the way...!) Great food, great service, great company...

Disgusting Experience, Rude staffs and Rude Manager Sunday afternoon me and my wife invited our friends for a drink and meal at this rotten pub! One of the table legs has been broken and we just asked a member of staff to check the table but he just ignored and start to joking about that!!!! My friend asked manager to check the table which is not safe to use but the manager rudely said there wasn't any problem with this table before, probably you broke the table!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The table lag has been broken before and the just tried to keep the leg stick to table by putting some beer mats!!!! I am honestly disgusted about how they spoke/treated us, very disappointing.

Visited the Axe & Cleaver on multiple occasions, pre-covid and during COVID and always found the staff to be very attentive, friendly and helpful. The food has always been cooked to perfection during our visits and the establishment has always looked neat and tidy. Some building work going on at the front of the premises but no impact at all. Also a decent size beer garden that wraps around the exterior of the building. Ample free parking on-site behind the restaurant. Would definitely recommend booking in advance as the place is usually busy all the time.
