Abbiamo mangiato benissimo, no doubt about it. I’ve usually avoided restaurants attached to hotels and but it was the closest to my son’s school for a dinner on a school night. The staff are smart and have that imperceptible snap you’re looking for in a good Italian restaurant, with warmth that’s essential when dining out with children. That was evident by the many young diners still in uniform. However by 7 pm the unfurrowed brows were mostly due to Botox and the uniforms were a mix of Burberry and 7 for all mankind. San Carlo’s food is good but not at the same level at Locanda Locatelli. The pizza dough is reasonable with toppings that are flavoursome. The chicken on my son’s pizza was moist and flavoursome but the cheese good old cheddar instead of mozzarella. With Honest Crust nearby and Rudy’s pizza soon to join them, it’s not on the same level but good none the less. Tre Ciccio is a good local alternative but San Carlo is really competing with Piccolino and Don Giovanni. Our mains were delicious and the lobster sauce that accompanied my halibut was flavoursome.

This restaurant is not as good as it looks… Service is very slow. It took forever until someone gave us the menu. We tried to order, but were told by two waiters, that only the manger will take orders. Vitello Tonnato, an absolute standard dish, was out. So I chose Carpaccio. There was a mayonnaise-like mustard dressing on it, a lot of it. It tasted like something you’d expect from a fast food restaurant. As the main dish I had scallops. There were five of them on the plate. Not a lot for the price of 18,80 GBP. They were TOTALLY overspiced. Very salty. There was NOTHING on the side. Only the five scallops. The spinach that was an extra order was very spicy. I like it, but it would have been a LOT too hot for many others. It was undercooked. Not al dente, but undercooked. They charged 4,50 GBP for the spinach. I tried to order cheesecake for dessert, but that was also not available. I will never come back to this restaurant.

It's a shame to give 2 stars it was obvious from the number of patrons that it is popular. But... our table was booked for 4.45pm, we requested drinks as we sat down, 20mins later we ordered. 20mins wait for bruschetta. Main meal of starter size tagliatelle Bolognaise and starter size lobster and crab ravioli with zucchini fritte only arrived 15mins after we asked where it was. The couple on the table next to us had their main meal before us, we ordered ours way before them. Food arrived, not hot. Apologies finally came from head waiter who said there we're problems in the kitchen and compensated with A Make It Right discount for main meal, we did not pay for it. From the moment we disclosed our dissatisfaction we felt very uncomfortable and left straight after finishing our meal. AND they had the cheek to take a 10% service charge! A real shame as this was the start of our long awaited holiday. Never again

Lovely outside area and clean exterior. Beginning we were a little early for table asked to sit and wait which I had expected with current situation. Our waiter gave very minimal service took our order. Food came promptly However still waiting for drinks the bar staff seemed more focused on chatting to each other.

Our mains came food runners mainly helping the most part of the service with additional items asked for this point again waiting for service for another drink. Once the mains came it had reached the end of lunch service and I had no clue where our waiter had gone (presumably a break or finished shift) there clearly hadn't been a hand over to another waiter for the section as our table and another 2 had received no service, tables with empty plates/ glasses no desserts offered nothing no asking for anything

I understand when there is low staff members however this was not the case at all as 3 of the team members found the time to look at their team members mobile right by the front door , the bar tender was round the other side having a chat, the host was either on her mobile or talking with bar tenders I had to ask the host for a dessert menu and asked where our waiter was and this finally prompted our main plates to be finally cleared. Dessert order was then ordered and then another waiter came over to take our dessert order again. The desserts then came out no spoons to eat with then we received shortly after.

We were then ready to leave but just got ignored I had waited and then got my purse out on the table still no one noticed then I had go to the host stand to ask for the bill. I was then asked if everything was OK I said food was fantastic ( which it was) however service was very very poor I was then given the response 'oright I am sorry' and asked nothing no interest at all.

Chefs you really do a fantastic job and even managed to see a few chefs front of house and still behaved more professionally than the FOH team. The decor and look of the place is immaculate unfortunately the front of house and bar team really show...

I have been there 2/3 times because I really like the food and it’s in a convenient location but the service there is by far the worst service I have ever experienced that you just have to laugh! When my partner and I have dined there the staff are really dismissive, definitely are against smiling and it’s as if they don’t care about the customers in the slightest, unless I assume they look well off or are a food critiques (which is what the guy below who we invited to our table - you’ll understand if you read the whole thing) We walked in and was ignored for 10 minutes the last time we went and so we just walked over to the bar.. again didn’t get served for a good 15 - 20 minutes until we said excuse me a good few times but as we were talking we didn’t notice how long we had been waiting, I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and the bartender gave me a strawberry slush so as I didn’t fancy paying alcohol prices for a slush I asked the manager if there was any alcohol in it as the bartender wasn’t around for us to ask and that took him 10 minutes to ask the bartender (who made the slush) even though she had been in front of his face at least 3 times! It eventually took half an hour for me to get an actual strawberry daiquiri which I got complimentary which is right! I wouldn’t even be bothered if that was the only bad experience but one time before we asked a waiter to ask a gentleman who was sat on his own if he would like to join our table, which he did, he was lovely and we later found out from him that the waiter had said to him ‘the couple over there asked if you want to join them but we know you don’t so we will just tell them no’ which I thought was incredibly rude! We don’t usually ask strangers to sit with us but he looked like he had been stood up but he hadn’t! I recommend going San Carlos because the food is lovely but either go to a different one or expect diabolical service...

We visited San Carlo Hale for my daughter's 18th birthday party. I need to start by saying that the food was absolutely exquisite, cooked to perfection and I commend the chefs and the team for that, I honestly rate it top tier!

The disappointment was the service we received at the table. It was a mess and the waiters were ill tempered and frankly, rude. They assumed how I wanted my steak cooking (which was wrong, so it went back), the plates were being thrown around and because the waiters were getting things wrong, they seemed to be taking their frustrations out on us!

They clearly do not welcome kids at this restaurant and seemed annoyed that we had children with us, even though we had pre-booked and pre-ordered our meals in advance. A couple of the staff were literally looking down their noses at us, like we were a bad smell! This was a table of 20, spending a fair bit of money, paying their wages I might add.

We are by no means amongst the high rolling A-List celebs they have photos of plastering their walls, which cheapens the place by the way, but we were all dressed well, behaved well and tipped well - despite this let down! So I am baffled as to why we were treated this way.

On departing, I didn't hear a single thank you or good bye!

I need to add that the bar staff were completely different. The 2 young ladies at the bar were friendly, polite and smiling - I suggest the waiting staff take a leaf from their book!

I spend a reasonable amount of money at San Carlo, in Alderley Edge, on a regular basis, and receive impeccable service and friendly banter with the staff there. It goes without saying, I'll be sticking with them in future.

I really do hate leaving bad reviews, and seldom do, but this was my girls 18th birthday party, and she left feeling pretty deflated. It was I who suggested San Carlo, and I now...
