It felt very safe visiting the Romper today after lockdown. You enter the pub via the side door near the smoking area. There's hand gel on the wall in the area you wait for your table to be allocated. All the staff are wearing masks and there's a perspex screen on the bar area. The tables for eating at are spread out. With the tables that aren't being used acting as barriers for the one way system around the dining area. There are markers on the floor at the safe distancing. The menus are paper to be only used once and then they are thrown away when you've finished with them. The cutlery comes in an earthenware jar with paper napkins and any unused cutlery is washed and not reused. The salt, pepper and vinegar are in small sachets. Again any left over are thrown away. There's a staff member constantly going round spraying the tills, tables, door handles. It's better to book in advance and at 4.30 on a Tuesday afternoon it was busier than I expected. Myself and my friend felt very safe at all times. The food was delicious. We both had chicken, mushroom and leek pie in a white creamy sauce with a delicious small jug of gravy. The glazed seasonal veg were delicious. I wished I'd just had extra vegetables and no chips. If you knew me then the vegetables must have been outstanding. Afterwards I had my very favourite dessert. Salted caramel sundae. A delicious glass filled with chocolate and vanilla clotted cream ice cream with chunks of chocolate brownie pieces, vanilla cheesecake, whipped cream and a delicious drizzle of salted caramel sauce. The staff couldn't have done enough for us and it was fantastic to finally get back. To exit the romper you leave by the door at the front of the pub. Taking you past the newly repainted and repaired lion standing proudly on its plinth. As yet unnamed. Well done to Romper team you did yourselves proud today. I'll definitely be coming back.

Excellent experience, lovely lunch, service exemplary, setting quirky and country cottage, staff all very friendly and down to earth, couldn't ask for more really. Myself and family members ordered from the main menu and the lunchtime menu. Starter Creamy Garlic Mushrooms on a sour dough crumpet with cheese and mustard straws, £5.69 was delicious and fresh, Hand Battered Atlantic Cod triple cooked Chips, Peas & Tartar sauce from the main menu, £11.95 served piping hot, fish white and fluffy, no complaints whatsoever. Also ordered similar Fish & Chips from the lunch menu just as good upgraded to Sweet potato fries £7.29 just as impressive, you can see the differences in the photos. Cajun battered Chicken breast burger £13.49 inc onion rings, salad, skin on fries very tasty. Sweets, Mini pudding and hot drink, Eaton Mess Sundae, Salted Caramel sundae & Chocolate Fudge Cake all around £5.50ish excellent, not to mention the pots of tea with a delicious cookie on the side, lovely idea. It's the extra little things, that make a place stand out from the rest. Toilets the best I have been in for a long time, with an amazing array of items for use, quite unique ! 10/10 to the Managers for going the extra mile in making sure everything you could want was there. Decor is relaxing inside and out, soft rustic colour's, with separate little areas, with fireplaces that in the winter months would be very inviting. Eaten here sometime ago, so glad I made a return trip, will definitely be returning and recommending.

For all these years, we've been packing ourselves up with food to go to airport hotels the night before our flight at Manchester Airport. Until we discovered this pub!! It's a short walk from both of the Premier Inns, and the Holiday Inn. Took us around 7 mins to find. The pub is lovely and clean, the staff are friendly - very friendly. I was impressed with the ladies toilets having hairspray, face wash, deodorant and handcream. I didn't need to use it, but it's a lovely touch to make you feel welcomed. We shared a starter, salt and pepper squid, which was lovely. The main, however, not as good. We had the Seabass Risotto and the Seafood Grill. My risotto was more like... rice. Quite bland, not creamy or luxurious. The seabass skin wasn't crispy and the flesh was a little overdone. My hubby says his was 'satisfactory'. Now, all that being said, it hasn't put us off. We'd definitely come again but just try something different, steak maybe. The welcome was enough to keep us happy. For desert, he had Mocha Torte (delicious, rich, not overly sweet) and I had Black Cherry Creme Brulee. Not something I'd normally order, but really enjoyed it. They take Tesco vouchers too, BTW, so all in all, it was a lovely night with great service. Would definitely recommend. :)

Frozen fish! Been coming to this pub for almost 20 years! Today's meal was absolutely appalling! 1st of all bartender didn't know the till/menu then over charger for a lunch menu item charging full dinner menu so had the get refund for that! then waited well over 40 minutes for food so had to get another drink! Food arrived cold but we were all starving! However the main gripe was the fish & Chips with 4 scampi and around 10 chips! For £16.50! for a small frozen fish (had better from Aldi) I took the plate back as no one came to us complaining in that have they served me a children's portion? For which they stated and with a strong voice "we definitely put 4 scampi on the plate" (no doubt they probably took the 4 from my 80 year old mothers scampi and chips?) And that is the size of fish they serve? My fork was taller then the frozen cooked portion of fish! 5/10 minutes later they brought the bread with a small bowl of hot chips! By this time the dish had gone cold and the fish was.....Aldi frozen is much nicer! so I just eat the bowl of chips! At no point did anyone come to our table (outside 58) we sat there for at least 40 minutes waiting for someone to come and ask about our meal? Nothing so we just left! Since when have they gone from making amazing homemade large fish and chips to something you buy frozen from a supermarket! Then having the audacity to charge £16.50! Is Atlantic cod a nicer way of advertising frozen fish? Rather then the old "home made" food only Receipt 74/0687. As they only accept Credit cards which is a bazarr risk.

My partner and mother eat theirs as was hungry but again commented...
