Review edit....... When they're busy the service is incredibly poor, being a lone traveller there's nothing worse than slow service, waiting an hour for food isn't good, although I was on a meal deal so 2 courses I gave up on my dessert as by this time I'd been there over 1 and half hours, if I'd waited for dessert to be ordered then arrive I'm guessing the whole experience would have been at least two and a half hours. So now even though I like the hotel I probably won't be coming back to stay in a hurry as the restaurant can't cope when busy. For balance here's my review when they weren't busy and for fairness I've changed my five star to two stars. This Beefeater is first class with great service and food, the menu has plenty of choice although a bit lacking in Vegan choices edit* they now offer more choice even Vegan options although that said it's a Beefeater so the type of food they do is in the name 😉. As far as the hotel is concerned. I regularly stay at Premier Inn for business (every week), Saffron Walden Premier Inn is a reasonably new hotel the rooms are very clean and well equipped, the showers are fantastic. The staff at the hotel are very friendly too.

Came here for a Father’s Day meal with three others. The first thing we noticed was how LOVELY the staff were, namely Julian and Toby K (whose names I asked for to mention here!). They were super polite and ensured that we had everything we needed throughout our meal. We ordered and the food was lovely, however sadly the one downside to this visit was the waiting times. We waited 45 mins for our starters, a further 40 mins for our mains and then 25 mins for dessert; our visit in total was over three hours which seemed quite unnecessary, although we understood it would be busy due to it being Father’s Day. We only ever saw two chefs in the kitchen who were pushing our meals at a fairly slow and relaxed pace, with multiple waiters standing around waiting for their table’s meals to be made. Overall a good experience, however would maybe not visit on an ‘occasion’ day again just due to wait times.

Went for mother's day dinner. Loved the food, and service was excellent even though they took their time to bring food to the table. A bit of a long wait but we weren't bothered as we live local. Be ready to tip as it's embarrassing to press 'No' when the payment machine asks you for it and the waiter/tress is waiting in front of you! 😁

Never again. My husband & our 4 year old had a table booked at 18:45, we arrived on time, there was a party of 3 in front of us (they were booked in at 19:00) & told to sit & wait & we were told the same when the manageress finally acknowledged us. The party of 3 were seated before us & another party & another party, then finally after a 20 minute wait (for a table we had already booked) we were seated. Then the waitress tried to rush us into deciding what we wanted to eat, never mind that we had only just received the menu. After we asked for 5 minutes to decide, that turned into another 20 minute wait to order. After an hour of waiting our starter arrived, it wasn’t worth the wait, very mediocre & the steak that my husband asked for to be rare to medium was more like rubber to well done. By now our 4 year old was getting very tired (as were we) after another 30 minutes our mains arrived. They had been sat under the lights to keep them warm & had dried out. Safe to say we couldn’t deal with the wait for dessert so didn’t order one. The manageress didn’t even have the manners to come over & apologize to us, instead she sent over one of the bus boys & then our waitress to apologize, not that it was their fault. No offers of money off or even a free drink were made. Safe to say we won’t be recommending or returning. Such a shame as we are locals of...

Honestly awful firstly the drinks we order taste like they came out of a river we thought it was just the drink pumps but the bottles tasted the same.we ordered our food and a painfully slow time later the food arrived this is due in part to the lack of staff. The starter and main courses were alright nothing to brag about and definitely not worth the price. One point to add is how non child friendly the restaurant is the potion sizes were way too big especially for a 1 year old and a 3 year old and they made them use adult cutlery which was two bug for them. Definitely the worsrt thing by far was the deserts The strawberries and cream was overpriced cosindering you get like four strawberries a scoop of ice cream for £4 the churro sundae looks good but it was about 80% sqiurty cream and the churros wernt nice at all and cheesecake wasn't nice at all somehow being worse that a frozen tesco one.All in all the staff were nice but don't know what they are doing as it wasn't busy and they were struggling the drinks were swamp water, the starters and mains were tasty but not amazing and the deserts were a basically daylight robbery. For me and my 5 family members (including 2 kids) £114 for a bunch of rubbish if you are planning on visiting i would go somewhere else and save money...

This place is a joke, every time I've tried to go to eat there i have been told they're fully booked, when clearly this is not the case. Every time this place is not even half full with an empty bar area. This morning was the last straw and the last time I will ever try. Upon entering I could see the restaurant was half full at best with a few tables waiting to be cleaned and an empty bar beside a father and son eating their food. Once again I was told it would be a 30 minute wait .... I questioned this as I could clearly see this wasn't the case and if there was ever a time I wouldn't have to wait, only to be greeted with a look of distain and a mutter and grumble. I said "leave it we will go else where,"to be met with a rude response and less than favourable expectation of customer service from the young server. Very rude staff very unorganised I can't comment on the food but the service has always been terrible. On the one occasion we were successful enough to eat there as a family group we were put on separate tables and my wife and I were separated from the rest of the party, our 3 year old meal was forgotten and she never received her pudding, not to mention the two hour wait as they were short staffed...on a Saturday night for a pre booked...
