Used to go here an awful lot and decided to see what it was like after not being there for a while. Booked table and called ahead to let them know we were running five minutes late. On arrival got told we are sitting at table one by the window. Asked would we like a drink then carried them ourselves to table one. I sat by the window totally freezing. The table behind us finished and left so I asked if we could move to that table in front of the pathetic fire that was barely alight with a few smokeless briquettes on what could have been an impressive fire. Sat for an age then ordered olives with bread. Olives straight out an asda jar, bread perhaps from budgens. Left most of the starter then onto the beef burger main X 2. The salad was far from fresh, chips and onion rings cooked in very old oil (I can still taste them four hours later). The burger looked like it came out of Iceland's bargain basket and tasted totally bland, the 'relish' to go with the burger was nothing more than tomato ketchup. Half way through this nightmare I needed another drink, waited and waited then went to the bar, waited again. Went back to the mission of trying to eat the burger. Eventually I got up again and the lady appeared so I ordered the drink. This time it was actually brought over to our table. NOT ONCE during any of this did we get asked, all ok? How's your food? Another drink? I could go on and on and on and....... I own a local business and alway encourage productive feed back. If I don't know there's a problem I can't address or fix it. On paying the fifty pound plus bill for olives bread couple of burgers and a drink I mentioned to the lady I used to come here all the time but have to say I'm disappointed this time. Oh why she asked. I told her about the bland food the old oil in the fryer etc etc etc. She told and assured me the appliance is cleaned every day. Every opportunity was offered by me for this lady to make a gesture (voucher to come back to prove we are good and will prove it, good will gesture discount off the food bill etc) my parting sentence was you will not see me here again. "Ok bye" was her reply. Needless to say will not be revisiting and will not be recommending anyone else to spend their hard earned money in this...

The perfect, cosy pub atmosphere with a vast menu to choose from. Typical pub meals on offer - fish and chips, steak and always pie or bangers and mash, but also lots of other things to choose from, including starters, vegetarian options, and desserts. Carmel and Bill are friendly and relaxed. Rotating menu of ales on tap, as well as spirits, wine, aperitifs, and digestifs! Keep an eye out for games nights and quiz nights, attracting lots of lovely locals as well. A real gem in the middle of the beautiful village of East Hendred. Book if you can, so they know...

Pleasent old style pub, full of character. A place mum would be comfortable in with old style music. Nice steak pie, not in dish but very tender meat, and good gravy. Fish was lovely and fresh. Coffee was not pleasant, it was like a sachet, very sweet, no taste of coffee. Apple crumble was overpowered by cloves. So much that my partner couldn't eat even a third and he has a sweet tooth... Even though he mentioned this he still didn't get a discount or alternative offered. But nice barlady. Nice atmosphere if yr older . And want a...

Lovely pub and food. We called ahead to see if we needed to book. The chap said they would wait which I thought was peculiar but once we go there, we were told that they were going to close as they had no customers. I’m so glad they did. We had a great lunch and a couple of drinks after walking a few miles to get there. So grateful to the owners for staying open for us. Just a shame that’s how it is now. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area. Solid service, great lunch and the place is an idyllic village pub. Will be back soon

Couldn’t be more different to its noisier neighbour pub. Don’t get me wrong, I liked them both but the Wheatsheaf had a bit more quirky character, quiet with old fashioned furnishings but excellent service and a tasty veggie tagine (the only plant based offering) with chunky chips washed down with some lovely Hook Norton bitter for £20. No mobile service but well worth a visit.
