We were seated in the conservatory due to the other parts being fully seated. We took our border collie with us. The lovely Jade was our server. The conservatory has beautiful fairy lights all over the ceiling providing a warm cosy glow. There were four of us. The bar is very well equipped. My husband enjoyed a few pints of something called staropramin I think. He normally only has 1 or 2 pints but I think he had 4 stating "it's a very good pint". The rest of us had soft drinks due to driving. Now onto the subject that is a big part of why this place is so enjoyable to visit THE FOOD. Oh my God!!!! The home made roast parsnip soup with warm bread. The sharing camembert with warm bread, warm nuts and chillied olives were outstanding as starters served on a hotplate to keep them warm. Our mains were so plentiful that we struggled to finish but we managed. We had Hunters chicken, No burger burger vegi option and ribeyes. The steaks were succulent and you know how you dream of that great steak flavour, it was there in spades. We had huge homemade onion rings and a homemade peppercorn sauce that tasted like it had been made with meat juices and cream. Dribbling just thinking about it. We have had loads of ribeyes out elsewhere including at home but the quality of them was very very good. I must comment that we have paid more for steaks elsewhere but nothing has topped the ones we had at the Angel. We sat bursting at the gills. We offered dessert and tried the home made apple and rhubarb crumble with ice-cream and one of us with custard. This was to due for. A very good portion. We were able to have what we could not eat containered to take home. Our border collie enjoyed a grilled chicken breast while we ate our desserts. There was a bowl of water inside for him. So to summarise the whole of the family thoroughly enjoyed everything about our visit and we could not stop talking about it on the way home. The staff treat you like family and are a credit to the Angel. We asked to speak to the chef and she came out when she was able to. What a superstar, a real talent tucked away in Abersychan. We will be visiting regularly and you are strongly advised to take a trip to experience for yourselves, enjoy. J Chivers...
Read moreMy recent visit to The Angel Bar and Grill with my dad was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and promptly seated, setting the tone for a wonderful dining experience.
Our waitress, Victoria, was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and professional throughout our meal. She ensured we were comfortable and well-informed about the menu, enhancing our overall experience.
We both began with the wild mushroom starter, which was rich in flavor and beautifully presented. For the main course, my dad enjoyed a steak baguette accompanied by crispy fries and a savory beef dripping sauce. I opted for the 16 oz gammon steak, served with chunky chips, a slice of pineapple, and a perfectly cooked egg. The portions were generous, and each dish was cooked to perfection, showcasing the chef's skill and attention to detail.
The table service was impeccable, with Victoria ensuring our glasses were never empty and checking in regularly to see if we needed anything else. Her friendly demeanor and professionalism truly elevated our dining experience.
Overall, The Angel Bar and Grill offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, delicious food, and top-notch service. It's a fantastic local pub that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a great meal and excellent...
Read moreHad Sunday lunch today as a group of 16. Food when it came was tasty although cold but what spoiled the lunch was the dreadful service. We booked to arrive for 12 but didn't get out until after 3pm Starters came out at all different times with a huge delay between starters and main course. When the mains did come we were given the table opposite meals when they realised they just took them from in front if us and gave them to the other table. There was a long wait for everyone to be served and an even longer wait for vegetables and gravy. Attention to detail was poor had to chase for replacement cutlery and remind orders were still outstanding. Paying the bill was chaos as we had to pay a deposit no system or organisation. Still have a query as think weve been overcharged. Disappointing as this is a set menu so prep should be very straight forward. I know there is a new manager and maybe things will get better with time but little to set this place apart from your average carvery other than it's cheaper and quicker...
