My girlfriend had a terrible day in work and for a distraction I suggested dining out which took a bit of convincing but she agreed. We are new to the area, tried a few pubs but thought of trying somewhere new and found the Cwm Talwg. It had good rating and reviews and was great to see a Welsh language name for a pub. We were not disappointed, on arrival we were greeted by four members of staff individually, what a warm welcome it was. We were greeted and seated immediately and offered drinks straight away, which pretty much arrived within a couple of minutes. We ordered food which arrived quickly, food was lovely, with good presentation and portions. The waiting staff checked on us and we're so approachable and friendly. We were also invited to the pub quiz due later on. On exiting again many of the staff wished us well. I noticed the pub quiz was hugely popular which is credit as clearly this pub has a strong connection with the locals. Overall what a great welcome, excellent customer service and great food. We'll be coming back again. Was great see my girlfriend smiling and laughing by the end of the night and that's down to the team, big thank you to Nathaniel, Tina, Eloise...
Read moreThe Cwn Talwg was easy to locate and there was plenty of parking.
We were welcomed by Nathan who was very friendly. When asked about the DES scheme Nathan explained that the establishment did support the scheme but we’re only able to offer squash as they were not an independent outlet.
The dining area and facilities were very clean, we had pre-booked table for a Christmas party/meal and there were table decorations and crackers to reflect this.
We tried the scan and order facility for some drinks and the service was really quick.
Once our entire party had arrived the staff got right in to cooking/serving our food. As a party of 11 it was great to see everyone’s starters/mains/desserts served at the same time. The staff were really accommodating with requests for extra sauces/gravy/custard.
The atmosphere in the establishment was great, festive music playing loud enough that you could hear it but not so loud that you couldn’t hold a conversation.
I had a really enjoyable night and would definitely come here again. Thank you to Nathan...
Read moreI have now used this pub several times, for both a relaxed meal with family and for a lazy afternoon supping beer.
The Cwm Talwg is primarily a food-pub rather than a local drinking venue. The food is very good for this type of pub and it would be unfair to compare it to a formal, fine-dining restaurant. However, the place is definitely good enough to take someone for a meal, whether it’s a family member, work colleague or potential business client. It seems that most diners don’t need to book a table, but it would be wise to phone them before turning up with a large group of people. They can get quite busy.
The staff are friendly enough, but not intrusive.
The beer is well kept and unlike many pubs of this type, the Brains beers are traditional cask ale rather than the standard draught “smooth” beer. I recommend the Bitter and the Rev James.
There is a small smoking area at the front of the pub and a large, tabled area at the back. Both the outside areas are dog-friendly, with bowls of drinking water that the staff are...
