Fox & Hounds Hotel — Restaurant in Wales

Was disappointed to hear from manager that owing to restricted room in kitchen, only two friers exist. One for fish and the other for everything else, which results in all fried vegetarian items (burgers, chips, onion rings) are cooked in the same oil as the meat products. This means the only vegetarian items available were mac and cheese (pretty boring and assuming the cheese was veggie-friendly), and the chilli, which one member of our party had previously had and would not wish to have again. The staff were excellent though, and pulled together a curry, which was not on the menu but both vegetarians in our party said was delicious. In the evening, my wife who had eaten and enjoyed the fish, had violent vomiting and diahorria. We don't know whether this was from her meal (she hadn't eaten anything else since the morning) but the two matters again mean we shall not be visiting the F&H for some time now. This is a shame, as the place is friendly and welcoming and the staff are always super helpful. We usually come as a group of six and used to come every month to six weeks. Computer says no!! Booked online. Never asked who we were when we arrived. Went for the chicken shack option. Only if you want the chicken how they want it! I asked for grilled chicken with salad and cauliflower (cauliflower instead or chips or rice). Computer said no. Can't change the menu. Order went though with chips - but they never came out - so someone spoke to the kitchen! Chicken was brick hard. So, if you can't eat potatoes or rice then it's just chicken and salad. Also, I can't eat raw onion but there was little point asking fo that to be removed!! You pay for the lot whether you have it or not !! Menu says it's £9. I paid £9.50 each. Ordered skin on fries for my partner- didn't get those. Also asked for mineral water - not available. Pint of coke (syrup off the pump) was a half pint at £2.95. Very disappointed. We were a party of 6 + 1 child. Everyone enjoyed their meal except for myself! I should have, in hindsight said something at the time or taken a picture of my steak, but I didn’t want to spoil the birthday celebration meal! I ordered surf and turf as did my brother. Chips,scampi,& all the trimmings were absolutely fine, however my steak was tough and looked like a lump of meat rather than a rump steak! I battled through 1/2 when my brother noticed I was struggling and offered me a piece of his! I gave him a chunk of mine and we both agreed that mine was very tough in comparison to his!
