This was my first visit to Home From Home and I was very impressed.
Walking through the door, we were immediately gifted with a warm welcome and shown to our table. It's a lovely environment inside; clean, comfortable and thankfully devoid of any pretentiousness which makes for a very, very relaxed atmosphere.
Menu wise, the restaurant offers exactly as the name implies, wholesome homely comfort food outside of your own home, and it very much delivers.
As we waited for our order, the next table received their food and we were both happy with what we saw, which is usually the best sign for anyone venturing into a new restaurant, so were excited at what was to be delivered to our own table.
For starters we ordered the Homemade Mini Fishcakes and The Crispy Prawn Caesar Salad, both of which could be a main themselves!
The fishcakes were far from mini! They were large, with a crisp outer, were full of flavour and the sweet chilli sauce just helped bring out those flavours even more.
The crispy prawns were indeed lovely and crispy, coated in a very light batter and were succulent and tasty, with the rashers of salty crispy bacon and the balsamic dressing on the side helping bring the flavours of the prawns, batter and caesar salad together very well.
Both dishes were served with lovely, fresh, crisp salad and delivered to the table very quickly.
For our mains, we ordered the Pan Fried Chicken, which was from the specials selection, and the Home From Home Burger.
The pan fried chicken was served on a bed of Rosti Potato, coated in (if I remember correctly) a salsa verde/bacon sauce with a garnish sprinkled on top. The chicken was well cooked, moist and tender and the sauce was full of flavour, all working together to be a very pleasing main course, which again, was a very generous portion.
The burger was served in a brioche bun, topped with cheddar cheese and a balsamic onion confit, alongside a good helping of proper chunky chips, salad and coleslaw. The burger itself was huge, cooked very well, succulent, seasoned well and was a delight to eat. The balsamic onion confit worked well with the sweetness of the brioche bun and the savoury kick of the cheddar cheese to create a very pleasurable eating experience. The salad again was fresh and crispy and the coleslaw worked as a slight pallette cleanser between bites. The chips were well cooked, with a slightly crisp outer and fluffy inner. Again, the portion was very generous.
We didn't have room for desert unfortunately, but the table opposite had ordered the Eaton Mess and Cheese Cake, both of which were huge and looked extremely inviting, so when I return, I may have to skip the starter and save space for the dessert menu!
All in all, it was a very pleasant experience, with really friendly, welcoming staff and a very relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.
I will happily return here in the...
Read moreWe were visiting from London, and just wanted a quiet escape for a week. We had no expectations of finding a top class restaurant on our doorstep. But we did!
This place is a revelation, and not in a central touristy area at all. Do not let that put you off.
My friends and I were here Sunday afternoon, and returned tonight (Wednesday).
The food is exceptional, well cooked, beautifully presented and way way beyond expectations.
The staff are just lovely. Attentive, helpful and care about what they are doing. So refreshing.
Decor is classy, modern, and everything is absolutely spotless.
The menu is full of classic dishes, many offered with a well considered twist or options that inspire culinary exploration.
Prices are 50% below a quality West End venue with comparable quality food.
I could go on, but just come here and see for yourself. And you're welcome for the tip.
My friends and I have just booked for the next 2 nights. We are not being boring. We just won't find anywhere this good in a 30...
Read moreFirst time trying out this little gem. The staff welcome we recieved when we arrived was very friendly, we were made to feel very welcome and had plenty of time to look through the huge choice of breakfast/brunch items... everything sounded appetising so took a while to choose.. I ended up chosing the club sandwich which was served with homemade coleslaw and a side of pringles, wow, on arrival it looked amazing so that was a good start, it was packed with filling and the bacon was of very good quality, it seemed like half a chicken was used too, no holding back on portion size, the homemade coleslaw was the best restaurant coleslaw I've had to date... My daughter chose the chicken, bacon barbecue panini which was also packed with filling, both of us had no room for anything else and left full to the brim.. we will definitely be returning to this one, don't tlet the price put you off at £11 for a club sandwich, you get what you pay for and this meal was well and truly worth it......
