Have just left this establishment after asking if the veggie burger was suitable for a vegan diet. The bartender wasn't sure and asked the chef, who rudely grumbled that it wasn't but didn't clarify why. It felt as if he didn't want me there, the moment I said the word "vegan"... I asked why the burger wasn't vegan and the chef glared at me, grumbled something inaudible and didn't seem to know. I asked whether it contained milk or something else, politely saying that vegan means no animal products. The grumpy chef snapped, "yeah, I know that", while the two bar staff proceeded to have a giggle - not sure whether they were shocked, or laughing along with him. I felt humiliated and belittled and am now in tears. Having visited this establishment several times in the past, I am extremely disappointed with the decline in respectful customer service. My grandmother usually chooses the Jolly Sailor for our family meals, but my family will not be visiting again. Disgusting behaviour from staff who should know better, though the man who welcomed us into the pub (think he was the manager)...
Read moreOnly a 4, as the view is the 4th star. 3 stars otherwise after today's experience. There has been several times before we have been and even though it was last year in between covid malarkey, the service and overall of the pub was brilliant. This time, we felt very intimidated from the gent at the front of the door which we assumed was the owner. Prompt, forceful questions, and no friendly responses. Not a good impression for those who haven't been before because of shielding or something else. The difference being this time is you have to book to eat in and out. You don't walk through the pub to get to the garden, like you did last year, because of this Covid rubbish. You've very little space for seating outside this time. The food looked brilliant as well as reasonably priced. The pub green was tidy and no rubbish about. You have to arrive early if its for a quick drink as the car park gets very busy, and if your disabled then it's difficult for parking. We found that out just taking elderly disabled father out for a couple of hours. Unlevel for those that have walking...
Read moreRated a 3 star but we know it could be a 5.... After calling about 3/4 days before hand for a reservation for 8 of us, to be told hesitantly we can't book you in as we're normally busy?? We were disappointed not to get a table.. The friends we were meeting said it's fine we will just go for drinks and sit outside. We all met up had lovely drinks there, but... As we were drinking we seen that people were turning up without reservations and being served food.. We decided to try and order some starters and side dishes, which we were successful. The food we ordered was nice, but overall very disappointed that we was declined a reservation 3/4 days prior as we would have loved to have eaten inside and had proper meals. Maybe a miscommunication with staff, or new staff members not sure what to do we don't know.. we will try and book in again to sit in for meals as like I said maybe new staff or miscommunication with bookings and times. We have eaten here several times before and never had this issue. We...
