Mash and Barrel — Restaurant in Wales

Went for our last night for a family meal. I don't like to complain however I was extremely disappointed. The man who took my order didn't look interested to start, we waited an extremly long time for our food. We had no apology. The place was only half full so I dread to think how long it would of been if it was full. Our food arrived warm, not hot. Like it had been sat on the side for a while. The waiter had spilt my sons chips on his tray. We had all finished our meals and I had to get up and ask where an earth were his chips. I had ordered spag bol and wasnt asked if i would like some cheese. My garlic bread was over cooked and tough. No waiter came to ask us if everything was ok. We asked for some ketchup and was rudely told it was in the corner. As if we should of known. We had never been before! We had all finished our meals so i had to ask at the bar where the hell are my sons chips. Hes not even had his full meal then After then sitting and watching my son eat chips with all our dirty dishes still on the table we ordered dessert. She took our order at the table, you would of thought she would of cleared our table following this but no the dirty plates all remained. Mine and my husbands came and we got one kids dessert. And that wasn't correct. Obviously we would order 4 desserts not 3 with 4 on the table.. the waiter dumped them and we had to ask to take away our dirty plates. i then had to complain again at the bar our order was wrong because the waiter couldnt get away from our table fast enough Me and my husband finished our desserts and we had to then re ask where our the kids puddings, when they finally did my sons dessert had the wrong sauce on. By this point I just wanted to leave so they ate what they had. If you have children and they ask for cookies with chocolate sauce that's what they want. So you can imagine the moans I got. And to be fair I felt sorry for them. They was looking forward to there pudding. To a kid that's the best bit. Despite all the complaints I got offered no refund or anything back. We arrived at 5pm and ordered quickly. We did not leave until half 7. My kids were both bored and restless it was far too long and when we ordered we was not informed there was a wait on food. I had a better experience at burger King the night before. I do not recommend this place for a stress free meal out. I felt we all ate at completely different times and I didn't have a nice experience. All we had was two adult meals and two kids meals with four desserts. It wasn't a big order and we didn't change anything on the menu to complicate it. I also felt like the entire staff team were 16 year old teenagers who didn't want to be there. I will not be...

Worst experience is probably the staff. I assume because the staff is all kids there is just no experience of service.

Walked in and waited by the host stand. No staff to be seen about 5 minutes go by and a staff member walks past us and says ill be back in a second. Another family comes in behind us and just walks straight in without waiting ( i regret not doing the same ) and stands in the middle of the restaurant. The member of staff that left us for “a second” then sits them down and still doesnt come back to us. I ended up finding another member of staff and ask for a table. We was then sat at a dirty sticky table. I had to then find another member of staff to ask for something to wipe the table down with. Granted this member of staff came over straight away. After wiping the table he said would you like me to come back over to take your order in 5 minutes which i agreed. 15 minutes go by and still nothing i stand up to look around for staff and notice there is 5 members all stood around talking to each other. I end up just going to order at the bar instead fed up already with the lack of experience and service. I place my order for food and drinks to my table.

Maybe this part was my fault but after i ordered i went back to my table (without waiting for drinks) About 5 minutes later i spotted the girl from the bar with the hot chocolate and the mocktail standing with the other 5 members of staff talking when she spotted me she brought them over. The strawberry mocktail was actually lovely The hot chocolate tasted like just powder and water so not great.

Food wasn't terrible but wasn't good either when it arrived we had to wait for cutlery to be brought to the table cajun pasta was quite bland the sauce needed reducing a little bit as it was watery. Pie and chips was actually okay a bit of salt and it would of been like any pub pie i guess My daughter enjoyed her pasta

The price of food was acceptable but unfortunately the lack of experience and service from the staff is what really lets this place down. I probably shouldn't of expected anything else from somewhere you've got to get to by walking...

This place deserves less than 1 star. My family's 6PM reservation at Mash & Barrel in Presthaven turned into a nightmare. The table we were given was disgustingly sticky to the point where a paper menu was literally adhered to it. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, we found grated cheese on my daughter’s chair before we even sat down.

We were then completely ignored for 20 long minutes. No one came to take our order, despite a server making eye contact and then choosing to serve people who arrived well after us. It felt like a slap in the face when she just walked off to chat with other employees instead of attending to us.

Trying to sort this out, we flagged down the hostess, only to be told everything we’d decided on wasn’t available. When I tried to escalate the issue, there was conveniently no manager to speak to. The person at the bar was clueless and unhelpful, directing us to the Haven reception for complaints.

The reception at Haven was a joke. The staff there were clueless and unhelpful. They offered no assistance, disappearing briefly under the guise of finding a complaints form, only to return empty-handed and without any sort of explanation.

It’s clear this place is run by people who couldn’t care less about customer service or doing their jobs properly. They’re just there for an easy paycheck, with zero regard for the customers who are actually paying for that paycheck.
