Shame we even bothered, We arrived on a Saturday evening as a group of 7, few of us came early and we weren’t seen to as staff was having personal conversations instead. It took an abnormal amount of time to get our drinks order before the rest of the group arrived.
The place was busy which is expected for a Saturday night but staff seemed incredibly displeased from the start. There was an hour wait for mains which was not mentioned. Once food had arrived it was splendid and truly lived up to its name, from there we decided to order desserts as the food was such a delight. However, it took over an hour to be seen to and we had to wave a member of staff several times.
The young waitress was flustered as we were disgruntled by not being checked upon for the 2.5 hours we had been there, with only having mains. Several of members of our group had their drinks orders wrong which took longer to arrive.
But from the start of this unpleasant evening the staff were miserable and looked in despair, the atmosphere and attitude was abysmal from staff, including the manager which when brought to the table by the young waitress decided to reprimand the group for our complaint of the wait for everything; whilst she was slamming items down in frustration and pulling faces (which is rather childish coming from a fully grown adult). Non of the members of our group out-rightly said anything to not be rude, but it was all dealt with horribly at a little bit of frustration by the manager.
Finally, if the team had wanted us to leave quickly – which is what it felt like, they wouldn’t have shunned us to a corner and ignored us. It was a shame to even bother for £20-£30 a meal.
To leave this off a bit positively, the food was amazing and this is a wonderful place if there is only 2 of you. Never go as a group of 4 or more!
I do hope this review leads to some better results for others in the future at this...
Read moreWe dined at the old cottage last night, booked by my sister for my Mum’s birthday. It is a great venue, nicely decorated although a little dark in places, I needed to use the torch on my phone to read the menu. It’s nice that they let dogs into the bar, however it does mean that if you do have a dog, you don’t get table service. The food is a bit pricey, my lamb main was over £20 but the lamb and sauce was amazing, however, this was let down by the burnt roast vegetables which then completely ruined the dining experience as after eating one of the cindered parsnips, the top of the potatoes was also burnt past browned in places, the predominant taste in my mouth was carbon; not what you expect from a pricey main. With better lighting, I would have noticed just how overdone the parsnips were and would’ve sent them back or to be honest just not caused a fuss and avoided them. The prompt for leaving a review was, when the dishes were being cleared, the server asked if everything was ok but didn’t actually wait for a response to be given, I held onto my plate and when a second server came to clear it away, I remarked that the carbonised parsnips had spoiled what otherwise was a really nice piece of lamb; his response to that was “That’s alright “ and disappeared. If it wasn’t for the fact it was my Mum’s birthday and I didn’t want to spoil it - I would’ve made a “proper” complaint. I appreciate that due to these circumstances, I didn’t give the the proprietor a chance to put it right but having my comment treated in such an offhand manner is inexcusable. It is such a shame that a lack of care and attention spoiled what was otherwise a very...
Read moreUpon booking we had previously popped by for a spontaneous mid week lunch and thought it would be ideal to celebrate a birthday with the family. It was explained to the manager that we were going to be five and that one particular family member needed more room, it was reassuring to know they could accommodate us and we looked forward to our visit. However upon arriving our table was ready and we was led to a table of four, similar to a booth. We was explained on our last visit that this particular table would be too small and throughout the meal it certainly was along with it rocking back and forth. It was clear there was no where else for us to go as the restaurant was packed and with the bottles of wine we had ordered and extra water plus the food, we really struggled. Secondly it was EXTREMELY hot, the light from the kitchen was constantly on (understandably) as it was peak Sunday service but it added to the discomfort. It was clear that my family was trying to grin and make it the best day for my birthday but really they didn’t enjoy the experience. The staff were amazing, so polite and attentive. The Sunday lunch… we ordered the trio, I was taken aback by how little/no veg was on the plate for the price and it was needed to be bought for a added extra, the Yorkshire was also overdone. Although the starters were wow!! I ordered the Camembert. All together we had paid £220 for our bill and my daughter was included in the 5. I was disappointed as we have not experienced a family meal together for a while due to ill health and I felt a...
