Tafarn Morlais is back - and it's worth the wait! During our usual Thursday walk through Langennech, we stopped by the Tafarn Morlais to see what was happening with the pub that's been empty for months. We met the new landlords Mitch and Sophie, who explained they've been working hard to address some significant issues left by the previous operators. They were clearly determined to get things right, and when they mentioned Saturday would be their first evening service with the new menu, we booked a table for our extended family What a difference a passionate team makes. Our party of six plus a young baby had an excellent evening. Chef Wes delivered quality across the board - the rump steak on volcanic stone was of high quality from Howells Butchers of Penclawdd, the Thai hanging kebabs were full of flavour, the garlic mushroom chicken hit the mark, and the cheeseburger was genuinely good. The service stood out particularly. The team conducted regular check-backs throughout all courses without being intrusive, striking that difficult balance between attentive and overbearing. Having worked as a mystery diner for several companies, I can say with confidence that both the service and food quality would have scored highly in any professional assessment. What impressed us most was the team's genuine interest in feedback. They actively sought out what was working well and where they might improve - the kind of approach that shows real commitment to getting it right. It's clear that Mitch, Sophie and their team are putting serious effort into bringing this local pub back to standard. Like any reopening, they're working through the inevitable early challenges, but the foundation is solid. The food quality is there, the service standards are high, and most importantly, they care about doing it properly. A proper local pub run by people who understand what that means to a community. They deserve the support, and based on our experience, they've earned it. We'll definitely be back.

Odd review this one! Thanks to Tafarn Morlais for allowing myself and my colleagues the use of their outside seating area and car park for refreshments during the train derailment and fire which happened a short distance from here below Talyclun - much appreciated by some very tired and hungry Firefighters! Thanks too to the volunteers from the Rapid Relief Team (see photos) who regularly provide emergency refreshments at such incidents - a cuppa and a bacon butty means a lot when you have been working hard through the night. Well done! Hope to visit Tafarn Morlais under different circumstances soon and write a proper review!

I thought I would leave a review as we have not visited for a while and could see new owners were trying to get it established. What can I say what fantastic food!! All freshly cooked to order, even making a meal for a fussy eater that was not on the menu. What lovely people made us feel super welcome and when they knew it was my birthday and my husbands birthday the following day they came out singing with some gorgeous chocolate cake. Thank you guys we will be back

Xmas Day... .Oh dear, what a terrible experience we had. Booked a table for 2pm and pre-ordered our food about a month or so before. We arrived at 1.50pm, and waited to be seated, but no-one greeted us. The waiter walked past us as if we weren't there. I saw my name on a table and asked a young girl if we should sit down. My husband went up to the bar and bought a drink. Then we waited..... and waited...... There were 2 other tables that had booked dinner for 1.30pm. They also were waiting for their starters. 2 more couples came in for a 3pm sitting. At approx 3.30pm the waiter came out with 2 x starters and went to one of the couples who had come in for 3pm. My patience was running out and I called the waiter over to remind him we had been there since 2pm. He went away, came back and said ours was next. Finally at 3.50pm, our soup arrived, and it was very tasty. We then waited for our dinner. By 4.30pm it still had not arrived. The other 1 30pm guests were either now eating a starter or some had received their main course. I had enough by then and decided to leave. The manager and waiter were very apologetic etc, and said it was their first year, but Im sorry,...

I visited here today with my fiancee. We were made to feel very welcome, the staff were professional and nothing was too much trouble for them. We ordered the Sunday carvery, it was amazing, really good quality, tasty food and good size portions. The team regularly checked with all their customers that they were happy with everything and if they required any of the vegetable platters or gravy refilling, I didn't hear anyone requesting anything extra, as there was plenty on the original serving. The tables are well spaced and the staff come to your table to take your order, eliminating lots of people walking around, this works well and makes it feel a safer dining experience. We had no room for dessert,so we asked if we could purchase them and take them home for later, this wasn't a problem and our desserts were brought to the table very well packaged and time had also been taken on the presentation even though it was in a takeaway carton.

Thank you all at Tafarn Morlais for making our visit a very enjoyable, relaxing experience. We will definitely be revisiting again soon,...
