Liked: Loved the fact that there was a river running through the campsite. We went in the river every day! I also loved the woodland vibe and the fact that there was shade and that you could have a proper campfire with camp fire pits. This isn’t the campsite with the most amenities that I’ve ever been to, but we massively preferred the wild camping style vibe To some of the more micromanaged campsites I’ve been to. There is a drinking water two and a toilet in the pub across the the road and a small single shower onsite so it’s not total wild camping. It’s also in an incredible location in the middle of the Brecon Beacons National Park, there is a country park and a beautiful castle called Craig y nos two minutes drive away and an incredible castle ruin called Castle Carreg a 45 min drive away, some standing stones and caves in the village Penycae, And the four waterfalls walk just a half hour drive away which was beautiful and incredible and we swum in some of the rainbow waterfalls.
Disliked: I couldn’t get the shower to give me hot water, it’s possible the gas powered unit was taking the edge off the cold.
So after my first shower on my first day we just washed in the river which was very rustic...
Read moreDidn't sample the pub so can only fairly review the camping:
Liked: Lovely location, great woody pitch next to stream, nicely set back from road but conveniently close to the parking. Pub directly opposite. Lots of places to walk. Animals all around. Parking fine
Disliked: Clearly described as having a toilet and shower block but was told on arrival in the pub rather unapologetically by the girl behind the bar that that shower wasn't working - well we wouldn't have booked this campsite if that had been made apparent - also the only toilet on site was an extremely smelly portaloo with no paper, which given there was quite a few people staying in what is quite a small field is not sufficient at all - so shame but have to knock off quite a few marks for this. Yes there is an outdoor loo at the pub that's left unlocked, but you have to cross the main road to get to it. Anything longer than one night would have been unbearable for us. And it was clear that the shower hadn't worked for a while. With these things fixed we'd have happily rated 5 star...

There is a trail going up to the "lady of the lake" site running up the side. I didn't do it myself as I am very lazy but saw lots of enthusiastic walker's going up. The pub is great. Food was very tasty and you couldn't wish for better staff. The beer was too nice. The benefit of a small site is that everyone mixed well and were really friendly. The river running down the back of the site was great and added to the ambience of roasting marshmallows!
Andy the owner was great company and very very friendly/chatty. The locals were a great crack and what was only meant to be a "quiet pint" turned into a "darn good drink!!!"
I went with my son, brother and nephew. The kids loved playing in the kids park and going on "adventures".
I would recommend this for any family that want to relax and have fun no matter what age!
I will stay there...
